Just joined ecf this month and wanted to share another reason why I'm so thankful for e-cigarettes.

I have four adult children, young enough to be my grandchildren…so I’m an old guy (but don’t think or feel old). Been smoking for 45 years this month, enjoyed it so much that I never made any heroic effort to quit. With advancing age and two kids in college, the realities of diminished health due to smoking started to sink in.

For years, my two daughters have wanted me to quit, but could never promise them (never made a promise to my children that I may not be able to keep). Because of e-cigarettes, I was able to make that promise last week…and it was a “pinkie” promise (the most solemn promise that one can make w/ daughters). This was very, very special for me.

Although I fell for a “free trial offer” trap, it started me on vaping and led me to this forum. For this I am truly thankful. The support I’ve seen by members is incredible. I remember reading a post that said ecf is like AA for smokers, and I believe it. With e-cigarettes and ecf, I know that I’ll kick analogs for good…and live to see both of my daughters graduate (the last from pharmacy school in 2014). I’ll be 68 and still working…w/clear lungs.

I just wanted to share this. Thank you all for doing what you do.

That is awesome for you!! I haven't been smoking quite as long as you, 27 years for me, but this has been wonderful and it's only been a couple of weeks, I will tell you though that I notice a ton of improvements and I am enjoying it like crazy especially the fact that food tastes better and I can smell things again, my ear infections that I have had for years are almost gone (doc always said it was because of smoking) I feel great! I hope you have as much success as I have so far and that a ton of others have to! Good luck!!

Congrats!! Glad to have you in 'the fambly'!

(And, my husband is 72 and we have an almost 7 year old, you're not alone! ;))

You won't break the almightly 'pinkie-swear', just remember there IS a learning curve, but you'll be a pro in no time!

Any time you have a question, just come on ECF and ask!

Best of luck!!

My experience and length of time smoking were pretty much like yours. I got lucky and got turned on to this forum before purchasing a pv so I got a decent unit to start with. After about a week using it I decided I didn't `need' to smoke anymore and I haven't. I hope it goes as well for you. Welcome to the forum!

I'm 69 and smoked my first cigarette at nine and by the time I was 16 I was smoking a pack a day that continued to go up to two packs everyday and three to four on many days. I was able to quit once for ten years and once for four years but always craved a cig and always went back to smoking. I have been off cigarettes for four months now and know I will never go back to smoking as long as I can vape. I have the beginning stages of COPD and my next step if I would have continued smoking would have been packing an oxoygen tank around like my brother and sister in law do. My doctor was very surprised how much better my lungs were after only a month of vaping now I hardly need my inhaler and nolonger cough or wheeze when I breathe.
