The last factory made coil I used was on an eGo! It's been a few years. They were hard to prime and we used all sorts of methods to make them absorb juice. The best way was to fill the "condom" rubber cover with juice and slowly insert the coil back into it, threads down (as Baditude posted). Wait a few minutes until the top showed juice in the cotton, let the excess drip off, wipe it, and vape.

I prime the wick in the coil and in both juice channels on my K4 with more than just a couple of drops. I'll wait for the juice to start coming out of the bottom. Once this has happened from all four holes i'll screw on the base to the rest of the atomizer then fill the tank.
PS.
Daily cleaning is also helpful. After finishing a tank i'll clean it out thoroughly. This includes cleaning out the juice holes with an Interdental Brush.
