I just needed to find out for myself. Some love 'em. Some hate 'em. So an opportunity came up for me to trade my once used iClear 30S for a brand new Pro tank II. Well I can't say I hate it. But I am not impressed. Filled it and let the wicks saturate for a while. Took a few primer puffs and then gave it a go. Instant gurgling. Few more drags still gurgling. Took it off and had some drops on the battery post. Wiped it off and blew any potential liquid in the tube out. Gave it another go. Gurgling a little less but still not impressed. Just doesn't seem to produce much vapor. Flavor is ok I guess. I might keep it to use once in a while or maybe I will trade it off. Just glad I didn't pay for it.

Have you tried removing the "flavor wick"?

There's an extra wick laid on top of the coils, if you remove it it should help with the flooding and with flavor.

I'll finish this tank out and then maybe give that a shot. I've heard mixed reviews on removing the flavor wick.

Removing one of the loose “flavor” wicks will allow your juice to flow to the coil more easily and make the gurgling worse.

When I got my Provari starter kit, it came with a Protank 2. It flooded terribly, and if I tightened the Protank down all the way, the airflow was cut off completely.

Then I got an Aerotank base for the Protank. What a game changer! It’s sealed, so even if the coil leaks a little, no juice gets to the battery. Also, I don’t get much flooding(gurgling) anymore. If it floods a little, I just raise the voltage and increase the air flow. Burnt taste? I lower the voltage and decrease the air flow a little.

Gurgling means you already have an air flow problem for some reason. Some people just draw on the thing too hard and too long. Short hard pulls are ok, but extended hard pulling blows right past the vacuum holding the liquid in place and results in gurgling. Stop pulling and the vacuum then sucks the gurgling liquid in the mouth piece tube right back down - and dumps it out the base of the coil.

The other possibility is you got a coil with insufficient top wick in place. That top wick, besides feeding liquid to the coil in a controlled manner, is also plugging a round coil "plug" fitting into a square hole. Removing it usually makes flooding and gurgling problems worse. That would also explain low vapor output. A flooded coil in these things from removal of top wicks actually drops vapor production. Then people try to compensate by ramping the voltage up. Then the complaints about "harsh and burnt" start coming in.

One last thing that can induce gurgling is running the coil way too hot. This is not a high voltage/wattage design. I find that I can make any PT gurgle by turning the voltage up higher than needed. I can also stop that by dropping the voltage again.

Give it a fiddle or two. This isn't the clearo for everybody but some things can be corrected.

This is not my experience. Only thing I can figure is that with the flavor wick in place, it's blocking the wick holes too much, causing the user to suck harder thus causing flooding. Removing the flavor wick has solved my flooding issues more than once.

Ah, you've got a bad one. Seems there's been a lot of those around lately.

I own two Protank 2s myself. One is super nice, and has been that way since I took it out of the box (and cleaned it). The other was terrible from the first draw.

I could hardly see any difference between them. But one vaped, and the other refused to do anything than spit, gurgle, and generally behave like a [insert expletive of choice here].

I identified the problem in the end, and this is how I fixed it.

Quality control on these Chinese made clearos isn't all that great. I keep hoping for a high quality Protank-like clearo.

Frankly, after using these a while I finally decided to build my own coils and see what happens. 32 gauge and 6 wraps on a 1/16 drill bit...1.8 ohms.....7.5 to 8.5 watts.....better..not too bad. But...30ga on a 5/64 drill bit....8 wraps..(cotton wicking on both this and the earlier coil)..use a 1/16 bit to position in the head and.....absolutely amazing!!!!!! 2.2 ohms.....Full 11 watts....Amazing!!! Tweaking the cotton in the coil and on top..no gurggling issues after. Amazing...full, dense vape....full flavor..throat hit on high VG...no burning. Amazing!

Yeah, rebuilding PT's with micro coils is the way to go. I don't even bother vaping stock replacement heads anymore; I just tear 'em down and re-build them.

Ok I should have reported back. The gurgling did go away. No issues now except the occasional little drops on my battery post. Vape ended up being pretty good. Not the greatest but not bad either. Still glad I wasn't really out of pocket anything for it. As for rebuilding the coils I'm gonna wait until the new Meag Aero comes out before I invest any time in these coils.

As mentioned before the new air control bases for the PT2 make a world of difference in these. Much better vape, and no more gurgling or juice on the 510 connection.

Since I've started using the Nautilus tanks my PT2's have been gathering dust laying in the corner of my desk. That is until I picked up a couple of the air control bases for them.

It's been about a week so far with the new bases, and now it's my Nautiluses (Nautili?) that are gathering dust. The taste and vapor are fairly equal between the two, and I'm very pleased with my pro tanks again. If it wasn't for the hugeness of the glass tank on the Nautilus I wouldn't have any reason to stray away from them. They're awesome, but just too big for my tastes.

It's the best $5 I've spent on vaping so far. They're that good!
