I've never heard of using hemp twine before.
In any case, I tried one of the soaked heads but it wasn't wicking very well and had a burnt taste, so I took it out and popped in a new 1.8. This time, when I removed one of the top wicks I made sure the other one stayed to the side (I had been leaving a single top wick in the center). It seems to be going very well at 7.5 watts. Not sure if it is just a better head, the wick placement, cleaning the tank, or changing the head in a half full tank (allowing the wicks to soak easier and resist burning when you first get it going) that helped. I guess we will see next time.
I still like the 2.5 ohm heads better than the 1.8, which is something that worries me about building your own (building your own seems to result in low resistance).
