Wow. All of you are really banging up on the kids.
Well since I'm also kind of a kid... In their defense.. You guys are much wiser in life and know the right from wrong because of all the experiences you have in life but we sometimes don't.
I'm not saying that they're right in going against what their parents are telling them and believing a video on YouTube.
I'm just saying it's a new world. We interact more with technology and such videos... Not only about vaping but also other stuff in life and obviously it's bound to leave an impression on us right?

Again I'm not saying they are right in not talking to their parents just bcoz they saw a video. They're absolutely wrong. I'd sit down with my parents and talk to them explain them my point of view and listen to their's and then make my decision.
But i saw someone saying that it's the parent's house and their rules are the final decisions. I believe that we can all learn in life.... So what if parents have to learn something from their kids? There's no shame in that...
They are your flesh and blood... And if they can teach you a thing or two about life then you should be proud of them. Give them a chance to express and don't just say it's my house and you kids gotta do what i say and nothing else.

PS - I don't mean to offend anyone. You guys as I've stated before have much more experience in life and are much wiser but please think about what I'm saying. Also please feel free to ignore the crap I've typed completely if you think you know better afterall I'm just 22... What do i know in life... Compared to some of you guys who have the wisdom and experience of more than 50 years in life.
Just my thoughts. Don't hate on me for this. :)
I'm only 26 but I've lived a very long, hard life an every day is a learning curve however or whoever we are. Wisdom doesn't come from age, it comes from knowledge & power :)

Seems as if the general public anywhere in the world is easily influenced by the media.... no one takes the time to think critically on the subject at hand and evaluate the conditions and results...

for example, most of the world consumes porcine meat products, but there is a faction that doesnt allow it... why is it okay for the majority with no or little ill effects but others are forbidden to do so?... Its all a matter of the beliefs and conditioning...

your kids have been conditioned to believe vaping is harmful and take the words of the media as gospel with no questioning it.

Hey that was me-yes, my house my rules. I do not hate you and respect your opinion and input. I just wanted to note that in the middle of my long-winded rant I also said to point out that the kids DO have a right to disagree, but NOT a right to disrespect. Yes, those of us who are older have more life experiences than you do and that is not anything against you at all. What we are against is the total lack of respect that we see from some (note I said some, not all).

It's also comes from being able to look at a topic from all sides, and being able to use logic.

Personally, I dont agree with the parenting style that doesn't teach, but rather says because I said so... My own parents were like that in many ways, certainly my mother and I didn't learn much until I experienced the world and had to face situations head on.

Thank goodness I was able to think logically, or I probably would have many more scars than I ended up with. That is the one thing my parents taught me, how to think with logic.

I had a more open parenting style, in which I allowed my kids to voice their opinions and speak to me about concerns, and problems.. this was HOW I was able to teach my kids not only to use logic, but how to avoid the scars I ended up with.

Right from wrong is often perceived as relative to the individual rather than absolute, but there is a core than can be, and should be instilled during childhood. Kids will be their own people and make their own mistakes as adults, but if they leave home with the ability to think logically and address situations with deep thought and true logic on top of having some core values, then a parent has done well..

There is a song, teach your children.. his post reminded me of it..

Yes but for you to have those experiences and gain that knowledge it takes time right?
And time equals age in a way.
I believe everyone in life has had a hard life or if not that " hard " moments in life at some point or other. And not everyone is the same right?
You have had a hard life in the beginning and i can appreciate how you've learned from it but others might not have had those learning moments till now... Give them some time and they'll learn eventually no?
I also believe everyone is good deep down in their hearts and having faith in humanity is of utmost importance. Whatever those kids did... Dont you think at the end of the day they just wanted good for their parents? Okay so they believe a stupid video but at the end of the day they still are trying to show that they care for them in a way right?
Again please don't hate me for any of my opinions.

No offense meant to you. I appreciate that parents do so much for us and their rules should be followed but parents can be wrong too at times and they should listen with an open mind to the kids.... That's all i meant to say. :)

That's the first thing you will or need to learn hon, not everyone is good deep down..

There is something my husband says - some people are just junk yard dog mean.

I have a broken back for a reason, and it's not a car wreck.. some people are just junk yard dog mean, and there is nothing good in them.

Said with love..

&Cf11, it's nothing to do with age, my mom is older than me and is actually less age and no not everyone's good. Also some people will never learn, just keep repeating the same old things.
No one here hates you for your opinions, not everyone thinks the same. That would be a world Topsy turvy. Don't be afraid to state your views :)

I'm sorry to hear about your back. :(

I know people can be mean and "not good". I used to hate(for lack of a better word) people in general just because of a few bad incidents that I've had in life.
But then i met a few people who i didn't even know and they went out of the way to help me out in one particular situation(it was really a life threatening situation, just don't wanna go in further details... It'll just make me sad)... And from that day the faith i had in humanity was restored. I started to give people a second chance.. I started to think why someone does something that might hurt someone else.

I realized upto some extent that people are not bad... Everyone is good... It's just the situations that make someone act the way they do. I know some might say they always have a "choice" but really? Do they? Okay I'm not talking about serious criminals... But please try to understand my point of view as well. Trusting people will make them trust you back.

There was this dialogue in the superman movie that got imprinted in my mind.
Sometimes we have to take a leap of faith first and the trust part comes in later.

Received and replied with much love :)

We have our beliefs and we are all entitled to have them :)
I believe people are good. And i know it might hurt me someday but till that day i wanna give humanity the benefit of doubt. :)

Thank you for saying that. :)
I just think that every time i have to state my views i need to add a disclaimer otherwise people might get offended and i never wanna offend anyone... No matter who's right or wrong. I know it's sad that humanity has come to this stage... But we can all do our roles to make it better right?

Cheers buddy :)

Listening is a learned skill, not an inherited one. I see a society too busy to spend the effort it takes in acquiring that skill. Hey, its much easier to plop a kid in front of a tv with a tv dinner, right? Too bad that most parents these days are just those same kids. We see the results of those left to fend for themselves in the news everyday..:(

I did not have benefit of family teaching me anything other than how to stay out of their way. Be thankful and grateful that you have people that allow you a voice, even if their only way of saying it sounds like 'my house, my rules'. It shows they care enough about you to give a damn.

:)

I don't believe there is right or wrong in anything cos people do things differently and you shouldn't worry so much about offending people. Things have gone too far, you can get accused of being racist when really you are just trying to figure out culture. I'm not a big fan of religion and I get shot down purely cos I believe science has the last word an modern evidence that can be proved. Too some people they could think I'm wrong so you see what I mean bout right an wrong??
People do things Differently And its all about the way receptors In our brain are programmed to make us think in different ways. People who think they are right all the time are just creatures of arrogance!

I finally watched the video and set my kids straight. I went thru it point by point. The video was actually nonsense, equating science with baseball and the lack of socks which led to some kind of ice age. The comments took a while. It was easy to explain them but time consuming because they were so many of them. It actually ended well with them understanding everything and their faces full of guilt for what they did but I do appreciate the reasoning behind it. They were just worried that me and my wife were slowly killing ourselves and this was their version of an intervention. In the end all is still good.

That's called gambling.
I dont do that with my family.

I've lived all over this wide world and am approaching a half century on this planet.
People are not inherently good.
They may have the potential to BE good, but blindly trusting people is a dangerous proposition at can get you killed or worse. Yes worse.

You shouldn't trust anyone but yourself! You gotta be selfish sometimes for the greater good...
