Is this a recently purchased tank? maybe there is still machine oil on it? I recommend washing it then trying it again.

Is it kind of a metallic taste?

1. It might not be as well-cleaned as you think it is, they are notorious for having stuff in the little air channels and such, needing to remove the positive post, etc. I'd double check on cleaning this in a big way; there is no normal cleaning for these, you have to overkill in ways that'll make you look odd if someone finds your journal.

2. Make sure your wicks are going over the slots and not against the sidewalls.

3. What is your wicking material? e.g., cotton/silica/ekowool? You may have too much wicking material (likely) or didn't torch the ekowool, etc.

Ok, so you're using a microcoil? It could be how you're putting it in and how thick it is, not just the amount trailing around in the well. I'd normally automatically guess this is too much cotton, either bundled too tightly (twist the end of your strip to get it through, but you want a cloud inside the coil, google will help) or too much. There should be the slightest of drags when you pull the wick through the coil, it expands several times in size when wet. Too much is what'll generally give you that fabric taste, too little is what'll give you hot spots -- it's trickier than rayon or such.

It's also true that not all cotton balls are the same; I'm currently using swispers organic and not bothering to boil them, but with others you can definitely get a taste if you don't.

If you aren't using a mech, you could dial down the voltage and see if that helps with the taste, but my brain keeps going back to either how dense the cotton is in the coil orhow much is in the well.

Glad it's improving! Until you're getting overly-hot or burnt tastes, you probably still have too much, either within the coil or trailing into the well. Kayfuns also aren't great for chain-vaping. I don't have one at the moment, but I remember finding success having the cotton just touching into the channels; I've seen some with it packed down into or pushed around the sides and didn't get it. I think now that you're on the right track your best bet is to google example builds via google image, remembering two things:

1. A lot of the first people to have them and put up examples were still figuring it out and it may not be best practices now.
2. I still see people rolling up their cotton in builds like this, I've really had the best success rolling one end to pull it through the coil, but keeping it as fluffy as possible.
3. The amount of cotton you need often seems like it couldn't possibly be enough. If it isn't you'll know and can work up from there, it just takes practice and is fidly till you get how much there should be.
4. If you crack it open and see drier cotton around the wick compared to elsewhere, your wicking is too long and there's too much, regardless of density of it within the coil. Cotton is better at holding liquid than wicking it. Snipping it where the dry stuff ends gives you about the amount of wick that will wick well naturally.
