I've been using the Protank 3 for about a month. I'm vaping Backwoods Brew Backo at 4.2 volts with my Smoktech Winder VV battery. Tastes amazing when the atomizer is new. After about a day, I start getting a burnt taste. I opened up the atomizers and they all have a black residue around the coil. Clearly burning. I've tried multiple other e juices (Halo, TW, Johnson's Creek, etc.) with the same result.

Am I doing something wrong here?

Half an hour ago, I tried cutting slits in the gasket right above the wicks on my aerotank (just one cut on each side all the way up the side but not the top part) and the difference so far has been tremendous. With the gasket unmodified, I was getting too many dry hits. I was using left over gaskets from protank 2 heads because they were shorter, but that was hit or miss and often caused flooding. Worth a shot. Again, keep in mind I just tried it for the first time half an hour ago, but so far I am impressed. For the first time I can crank the wattage up on my Sigelei 20w to the point my lungs can not handle the hit with no hint of burning. No flooding yet either.

So I tried this last night. It actually does work. Thanks for the advice!

However, it still doesn't compete with the Nautilus IMO. I have a KFL+ in the mail too.

I'll have to try the Nautilus. I'm just worried it will not do well with thicker juices since it appears to be harder to modify and it's too expensive for me to risk it not working well for me. I tried the Innokin X.I but it wasn't as good as the Aerotank with the modified heads.

I've been thinking about just going with rebuildables and using pre-coiled wicks for those times I don't feel like doing it myself.
