I'm normally a carto tank user, but a few months back i bought a protank to see what all the hype was about.

I will say the protank is excellent when its working well. But i can't seem to get through a full tank before it starts tasting like metal or burnt.

I'm using authentic kanger 2.5ohm heads on a provari at 4.2 volts. I always remove a wick otherwise i get dry hits. I'm using 70/30 juice.

I've heard of some people getting a month or more out of a coil, and i just don't buy it. I can't get more than 1 or 2 days. I accidentally bought 30 heads for it when i intended to buy 5. So I've just been swapping them out recklessly. I don't really have an interest in rebuilding them because as i said, I'm normally a carto tank user.

I just want to know what I'm doing wrong.

A high VG juice will also cause the heads to get nasty faster. So if you are using a juice that is 50/50 or higher swapping out and cleaning is a good idea. I am trying to convince my wife that is why I am buying so much vodka.... but by the time I remember I have to clean the head it seems to have disappeared.

You will never know exactly until you take a head apart to see how it looks when performance drops.
Could be Gunk build up.
Could be over saturated.
Could be juice reacting to heat and degrading. yea, a few do that.:glare:

I have had coils start to drop off in flavor/vapor and simply bumped the power up a bit for a few draws and they cleared excess liquid. Right back to vaping nice.

20 different people can give you 20 different reasons why this does that.:) just the nature of things.

I've had nothing but problems with my Protanks, have tried everything but recoiling them. I have some Kanthal in the mail, I'm gonna try a micro coil with cotton, though the current coils rewicked with cotton were great for about an hour, then crap. Ordered a Kayfun Lite today, so in about a week, the Protanks should be backups ;-)

As long as I know you might have a bad batch of heads. I rotate two, cleaning them in alcohol overnight. The 4 I have lasted me a month and a half, an average of 15 days a head. I'd wash it every two or three tanks with very hot water running through the shaft. I've been vaping them at 10 or 12 W (mine are still the stock heads at 2.5 ohms). I never buy any more than 3 to 5 heads at a time, just in case I've got a bad batch. If I do, I try to buy from somewhere else and label them as they arrive. This isn't uncommon, but since they're cheap and easily rebuildable, people buy them happily. But I'm as unhappy with their duration as you. I've had Vapeonly heads going for 4 months beautifully.

Jeez, I'm running 100 VG stuff through mine and my current head is into week six! With cleaning of course. But the couple few of you having extreme problems - I'm wondering what specific liquid you are running though them. Dark colored stuff perhaps? If I can get away with 100 VG anything and only clean once a week, I'm wondering if you have a flavoring in the mix that is a classic atty killer.

There may be some truth to this. I'm using Kentucky Maplewood from Vermillion River. It's my all day vape, and I don't use anything else. I've also noticed that I only get 5-6 days out of a cartomizer with this juice, while I've heard many other carto tank users get weeks out of a single cartomizer. But who knows. Maybe those people are using 5 different tanks every day. Since I don't change out flavors thoughout the day, I tend to use one juice delivery system all day. Who knows. there's too many variables to ever know for sure

Flip the silicon gasket that sits above the wick upside down. With thicker juices, air can get stuck between the gasket and the well the coil sits in, causing dry hits (flipping the gasket allows the air bubbles to move out of the well more easily). Also, when it starts tasting dry hold the unit upside down so juice isn't covering the wicks and air can get in more easily and allow the juice to flow. Taking a draw or two without the battery engaged can also help.
