Just wondering if anyone has used protected batts in a MK1. Currently mine is in for repair. Not positive what happened (probably a short at the atty) but the spring got hot and collapsed. I tried soldering on a new spring but still dead. Rather than try an take the fitting apart, I sent it off to trog.

Protected 16340s are not supposed to fit but it seems like the spring in the SD could be shortened to allow for the extra length.

I've heard people say it's no big deal to use unprotected 16340s non-stacked but, since I like my face the way it is, I think I'll figure out how I can use protected in the MK1 or shelve it. :(

    Somewhere between here and there
I have used the grey ultrafire protected batteries in both of my SD mk1 pv's. They fit a little snugger than the others but work. I honestly have gotten the best performance from the AW imr 16340 batteries. I like to run lr306's on my SD and the AW batteries make it perform much better and more consistant than the ultrafires or the blue ones that trog sells. Trog is a great guy to deal with but he should really consider offering better batteries. The AW ones are more expensive but worth every penny.
