Minimum ID (Inner Diameter) would be to the outside of the threads:

When I first received my Provari with the 2500's and spacer, the ring was needed. The device just would not fire without it.
For some reason, I guess because of the rate of the spring, the ring is no longer needed. I have it kept safely tucked away but I no longer use it.

I just got my Provari today and was wondering the same thing. I took it off to see how far it would thread without it and saw that it was a pretty small gap. I took a black o-ring I had from paintballing and it fit perfectly and covers the gap nicely. If you live near a paintball store just ask if they have any o-rings that they use for the barrels or if they have any that will fit.
