Good morning all! so I've been playing around with my kayfun lite and I absolutely cannot seem to get a setup that works well on my Provari (in the higher voltage range), and tastes good for more than 20 min... seems like they all end up tasting like crap or losing all flavor. Now, my friend's Kayfun build runs 1.1 ohms and works great on his dna mod, but on the Provari, i have to keep the voltage down around 3.6 or so to keep it from burning. any thoughts or advice from daily Kayfun/Provari folks? also, I got so frustrated last night that I drained the Kayfun and was fully intent on bringing my z-atty to work today instead, but in a stroke of genius (or insanity), i disassembled an iclear 16 coil, and mounted both coils side-by-side in my Kayfun, trimmed the wicks, and viola! works pretty well, tastes good. I did bring it to work with me, however I am still lacking on flavor (which is my main complaint up to now). any help would be greatly appreciated!

It has to be somewhere in your Kayfun build.. I'm running a 1.0 ohm dual-coil Hercules @ 3.8v on one of my ProVari's, and the flavor / vapor production is very nice. I can put the Herc on one of my mechs, and since the voltage drop takes it down to 3.75-3.80v, it still vapes about the same.

Voltage is voltage, power is power, regardless if it's coming from the DNA or the ProVari. They both offer accurate voltage / power output. If the ProVari is firing other attys / cartos well, I'm not sure what it could be other than the Kayfun build, except for perhaps since the KFL lacks airflow control, you are not getting adequate airflow when screwed down to the ProVari. You certainly can't flush-mount it without restricting airflow. Try leaving a small gap between the ProVari and KFL..

Kayfuns have a side feed air hole, flush mounting them will not affect airflow. I own both KFLs and ESs, I think the KFLs are more finicky about set up. Probably the most important thing is ensuring your wicks arnt plugging the juice feed holes. I also like my coils to be in the 1.8 to 2 ohm range. That way I have a bit of wiggle room with my volt settings.

the problem that i'm having is that if my coil is 32ga and 1.7-2.0 ohms, the vapor production is horrible. same with the 30ga at 1.1ohms... have to run it at 3.7 volts; any higher and it's burning. i'm trying to find a reliable and repeatable baseline from which to experiment, while still being able to use it for an ADV

You're right.. I stand corrected.. I was thinking of the adjustable airflow control in the Russian 91%, which the KFL does not have, and thought the KFL pulled air from the 510 pin. The wick placement is an idea though.. I have a Kayfun conversion kit in a Terminator C, and one can't jam the wicks into the channels too tight.

Are you targeting a certain voltage/wattage or are you looking for flavor/vape? I personally don't pay a whole lot of attention to what voltage I have set - I just adjust for flavor on each device and for each juice.

Also, I may be confused, but are you using your friend's KFL and having a different experience, or your own? KFLs apparently are quite susceptible to wick configurations.

I think the issue with KFLs is their open draw, Kayfun's juice feed is somewhat regulated by their draw, tighter the draw, the more juice that feeds. I run a slightly tighter draw on my ESs then the draw from my KFLs. The more juice that feeds the sloppier my wick set up can be with out worrying about choking it out and getting a burnt taste. My KFLs just don't feed as much juice, I have to be extra careful I don't hinder the feed in any way or I start getting a burnt taste.

this

I found it took a lot of tinkering with the wicks on different mods to get the same results.

I run 3mm doubled with 28g @ .9 on my mech and 32g @ 1.7 for the provari. found i had to empty the higher resistance one, trim the wicks a little bit, try again, trim just a touch. etc lots pf playing but now i know where to build them for next time.

now Its a fogger.
