I have an opportunity to pick up a provari with a vivi nova and six heads for $170. First question : is this a decent deal? I know the person selling it to me, and it's only been used for about two weeks. My second question : are these really all that amazing, or is it just hype? I currently use a 1100mah ego with a CE5, am I going to notice a huge difference, and if so, what?

I think it's safe to say that many people consider the Provari to be the preeminent variable voltage tube mod. It is solid stainless steel, tough as nails, and rock solid.
The advantage over your eGo would be increased power output, increased battery life, lower battery costs, and, of course, variable voltage.
Variable voltage allows you to dial in the perfect "sweet spot" for the particular atomizing device and juice you are using to maximize flavor, throat hit, and vapor production.

Also just for your future reference when dealing with a VV such as the Provari. Here's a chart that can give you a sort of "starting place" when choosing voltage.

That's kind of what concerns me. I equate it to what I know. If someone wanted a tablet, they would be advised by 8 out of 10 people to buy an ipad. And that's a fine option. But there's at least four other devices that perform better for the same price or less. Is the provari really that great, or is it just what everyone says is great? I'm fully aware that im over thinking the hell out of this, just wanted to hear opinions.

OK...
Pluses to the Provari:
1) It is, as I said, tough as nails.
2) It's stainless steel so, unless you get a colored one, they look good and keep looking good forever.
3) They are dead-on accurate on their voltage regulation...and it's rock solid stable.
4) The company stands behind their product and you can get reasonable out-of-warranty repairs if needed. They recently released an upgrade for their older models to bring the electronics up the version 2 specs and it cost a whopping $20 (plus shipping) to have them do it!
5) They have good battery life and, of course, the batteries are far cheaper than replacing a dead eGo.

Minuses to the Provari:
The menu system is a bit tedious to use. Everything is selected from a single button so it can take a moment to get to where you want in the menu. That said, once you get used to it, it's pretty quick.

You forgot one plus to the Provari over cheaper VV mods.

A lot of times you can sell a used Provari for what you paid for it or slightly less while a zmax/vmax's resale value drops CONSIDERABLY.
That should tell you something, and also make you feel a little more comfortable with your investment.

I would also like to add that everybody who loves vaping eventually gets a provari and those who doesn't yet have one will always dream of owning one.

That may be true for boys and their toys but women have always known how to be satisfied with much less.

I bought a LT before purchasing the Provari and wish I had saved the money, only lasted 28 days. I could have applied that $100 towards the Provari! All in all I am not sorry I bought the LT though since VV finally got me off analogs. It might be all in my head, but the Provari seems to be a smoother vape. The power seems more "level" thru the hit, the LT seemed to have a fluctuating high/low thru the hit making it more harsh (if that makes sense). The Provari is a freakin tank in build quality. And lastly as stated, you could sell the Provari in the classies for $170 with no problems if you decide it isn't for you.

<snip: vaping power chart>

I think it's funny how I'm almost always in the red on that chart. It's not dangerous. The borders are based on the whims of whoever created it.

Yeah……I never dreamed of owning a Provari. Ordering mine was a bit bittersweet because I really feel like there should be a better way to do the things it does. Using them briefly before and actually owning one, I fee exactly the same. I'm happy with it. The menu system is wonky, and I really wish it were different.

"It's not really that bad" is now how I want to feel about interacting with a $200 PV. But it was and remains the best mod for me right now. I just know I won't hesitate to change when something better comes out.
