Yeah, I can't see the bottoms in the pictures. There has to be indents so the o rings don't get push up when inserting. I'm sure that pipe makers could pump those out in minutes if the bottom part is already made.

I've never seen a blown drip tip in person... and photos of them typically only show the top, usually stuffed into a tank. Even photos of the bottom, you can't generally tell whether it's indented or not because they all have O-rings. I was just going by the plastic/metal bottoms I have, which all have either 1 or 2 indents for the O-rings. So knowing that would be really helpful:).

See, and I LIKE the feel of the metal ones and don't detect a metal taste at all. I HATE the acrylic or plastic ones.

I think the glass ones would be okay (I'm still waiting on some brass and pyrex tips to be delivered) but my personal taste isn't for the hand blown ones. Which is sort of odd since I love hand blown glass.

I am exactly the opposite. I can't stand metal tips. They taste metallic to me . Oddly.
I also don't like ceramic, glass and stone tips. I feel like they might chip my teeth.
I like the basic, cheap, but fancy plastic tips.

Shrugs.

I think anything decorative is so subjective, that if you put 10 people in a room, and showed them all 100 pictures, you would get 10 different favorites. I don't like the metal drip tips at all, because for some reason (I know this won't happen), I think my lip will stick to it... this must be from growing up in NY, where kids would dare each other to lick metal when it's frozen.

Plastic has the best 'feel' to me... because it's not so cold. But I think it's the least attractive.

Glass is like... well, we all drink from glasses. Is a glass glass better than a plastic or metal glass? Is a ceramic/glass mug for coffee preferable to a metal mug or styrofoam or take out paper cup?

I made 4 drip tips... with the intention of grinding them. Heck. I'll just go shape them and come back to finish the note or I still won't have any tips.

Not as bad as I thought, tho some fit better than others. I also have no O-rings, so they have to be shaved again once I get some. Here's the 4 I got done. Note that I shot these with flash, because my bathroom lighting is so yellow. I love the effect to spend time in, but photos look bad, so I used flash. 2 of the drip tips are silver glass... which changes in every different type of light, so they aren't 'true' colors.

Smallest one. I'm actually vaping with it now, on the tank you see, but could still use an o-ring:

As for breaking glass... the odds of good annealed boro breaking from use is about the same as a Provari breaking in 1/2 from use. It's not going to happen. The problem with glass is that if not properly annealed, it can break if you look at it funny, and hardly any Chinese glass is properly annealed. That means easily broken tanks that give glass a bad reputation.

I still need to figure out how to get the bottoms perfect, but grinding wasn't as bad as I thought:).

Funny story... I go to grind the glass just now, and I figure, oh, I need something to check the size with... so I pop the top out of the tank I'm vaping, and decide to use that. I start grinding, and now, I've got wet ground glass all over my hands and tip... and I go to stick it in the hole, when it dawns on me that if I use the tank full of juice I'm actually VAPING, that I will be vaping ground glass and wet muddy glass particles in my juice when I put the top back in... DOH!! I had the first tip about 1" from sticking it into my tank when this dawned on me!!!:facepalm::facepalm:

Aww, thanks KB, CrimsonJack, and EvilZoe :)! I'm still a ways from selling anything yet... I am still not sure how to do the bottoms! But it's really heartwarming that you guys like my starter experiments:)!!

Some of the tips are sticking in there pretty good right now, The littlest one can pick the entire Provari up and shake it without it coming loose. I think the grinding of the glass gives it a seal to the metal the way a ground glass stopper fits in a bottle (because that's what I just made, mini ground glass stoppers).

BUT... the seal is not perfect, I think there's a pinhole letting air through on the one I'm vaping. I think it still needs O-rings. Now I just need to figure out where to get O-rings, anyone know?

Sorry can't help as to where to find O-rings--but maybe the people at High Desert Vapes could tell you. They sell a lot of nice handmade glass so they might know who supplies the O-Rings. Just a thought...

I know where to get them but I haven't worked out the right size yet. My first order they were too thin although they fit. My next order should be arriving soon and I'll be able to tell you what a standard black o ring size is and I'll link you to it.

It's tough to work it out but I'm trying and I'm very close...lol

After I work out the black o ring size I guess I'll have to see about the clear ones. They don't appear to be the same for some reason.

EvilZoe, have you tried this place? oringsUSA

I wanted food grade silicone... but they are measured in english and not metric. Also, I think I need 1 mm thickness, not the 1.5 or 2 that I'm seeing on some of the rings for grooves.

What are you planning to make your drip tips out of?

My first ones will be basic stainless steel ones that I'll paint with non-toxic enamel that I bake and coat the whole thing with food-grade epoxy. I'm still experimenting because I haven't received a lot of my supplies yet. I have other ideas, too, but I'm pretty sure the first ones will use already existing tips.

This is where I've been getting my o rings: ClipsAndFasteners.com - Automotive Retainers,Clips and Fasteners

The first rings I got are 1mm thickness so maybe I should just send them to you...lol

I'm shooting for standard sizes, though, because I need them to fit like any other 510 tips.

Oh, and I'm just going to get regular nitrile rubber rings. That's pretty much what everyone uses, anyway. They can tolerate heat and stand up to the juices.

That sounds interesting! Would like to see an example when you are done. Maybe you should make art caps for carto tanks, and I can make the glass for it:p.

I've been doing a bunch of research on drip tip o-rings, and here's the dimensions I found.
"standard" O-ring size for 510 drip tips: 1.5mm CS x 6mm ID x 9mm OD

and

MadVapes claims theirs are:
9.44 mm outside diameter
6 mm inner diameter
(which means their wall thickness should be 1.72mm (who sells that? and is that 1.5 or 2mm in standard O-ring sizes?)

The actual measurement for the inside of a carto is a bit LESS than 9mm (because the carto IS 9mm, but the thickness of the metal is less than 1mm)...possibly 8mm, but you have to have room for 'squish'.

That's clear as mud, which means that you have to test for sizes anyway:(. I just now pulled one of the O-rings off of a regular drip tip and popped it onto one of my newly ground glass ones... and while it fits fine, because I have no groove, it won't work. But the one I used was also 1.5mm thick too, so I don't know if 1mm would work.. or I MUST put a groove in there.

Such a pain getting everything sourced, isn't it? I want to make tanks too, and THAT's a whole lot of measuring, since tanks come in so many different sizes... and what tanks do I want to make replacements for?

I already made some tanks, here:
DSC_0528_zpsa784968f.jpg

I got the outer diameter perfect... but the grommets I bought from High Valley Vapes do NOT fit the cartos I got from them, they leak at the carto joint, which isn't anything I can fix. The glass to silicone seam is perfect, but they are unusable because the grommets they sell don't fit their carto tanks they sell. They make some lovely tanks, but I don't think they use the same caps they sell, as there's no room in the inner ring of the grommets to put an o-ring to hug cartos on the ones I bought from them.

However, I realized that even if it did fit, I'm not putting cheap caps on that much glass work anyway. So I'm just going to make decorative replacement tanks for my glass tanks.

I've just been obsessing over juice blending and equipment lately. Need to work the vape gear hoarding out of my system before I get serious:).

Those are beautiful drip tips and the tanks are awesome!

I know what you mean about grommets. I bought a hand blown tanks with grommets and I leaked terribly. I sent it back and they replaced it with a better one. Now it works fine, but a grommet is more likely to pop off when installing a carto than good tight end caps.

Maybe you could buy metal end caps from IBTanked or similar vendor?

Nice!! I like how you added colored glass around the tubing. Do you have any idea what size o-rings to get? Like ID/OD and thickness? I'm thinking food-grade silicone is being used. not sure if food grade is needed but just to be on the safe side.....

Oh. This is what the color is on the one I'm vaping with no flash in my yellow room:
