Looks like a domesticated coyote to me (or a dog, actually).

The coyotes around here all look straggly and awful, moth eaten coats, and probably riddled with disease.

I've considered having one as a pet, I like coyotes, and they always have tons of interesting stuff to say, but my husband is a firm "no" on it, and I'm not sure it's really fair to him OR the coyote.

Once I get done with some stuff, I am adopting my OWN puppy, LOL. I've never owned one, and the dogs all got into either my kiddo or the husband. SOON.

It will also require the husband to be less "dominant" for a bit (well, I will be requiring it) so that the dang dog would be my own. I know perfectly well the husband would want NOTHING to do with a coyote puppy, but again, it's not really fair IMO. You can domesticate a wild animal, but it is a true PITA and you have to be completely willing to do anything at any time, including detaching it from the mailman's leg. I want my mailman to LIKE me and not lose my packages. LOL.

Is an animal that attaches itself to a mailman truly and completely domesticated?

Nah. But, domesticating a coyote would be a process. I kind of feel prepared by the kiddo's dog though. I find her sweet as can be, but the last time we went to the dog park she almost bit a kid. It was NOT COOL. I'm QUITE sure she's made noise at the mailman before. She's getting better, but any exercise in "something new" is, ah, taxing. She was a homeless person's dog and for some reason she really hates kids AND the homeless.

In fact, getting her to a kennel when my son entered rehab abruptly? LOL, both my brothers failed, catastrophically, and my oldest brother is TERRIFIED of that dog.

The only thing I'm terrified of is that she may actually bite someone that would be catastrophic, but also the socialization MUST be done.

The kid she almost bit, man, I had to go over there and simmer the family down and explain to the kid that she's as scared of him as he was of her. We'll see... Next time we encounter them in the dog park.

Her first trip, she jumped on a pic nic table and freaking shook, for about 10 minutes. LOL.

I figure socializing her is easier if I'm around. For some reason, that dog and I have an ungodly connection. She definitely sees me as her "pack" mommy, and we actually share a lot in common: we both love the kid, we both can be charming and lovable, and we BOTH turn into raving, violent lunatics, when upset.

I love her so much, I asked the kid if he would gift her to me if he had an untimely death. Not that there are too many other family members who would be jumping up to "have" her. I would however clone that dog, and take her on any day of the week. In fact, I kind of have to hold back from being too directive at her, or paying her too much attention. She is not my dog.

But yes, I like them tough. When I get a puppy I'm going to adopt the scraggliest, most mutt and unwanted puppy there, due to their behaviors. Etc. That's the way to go, we picked up many almost dying dogs and gifted them to family members. One, who my son found, ended up with my little brother. I was pretty sure the dog was gonna die, but he turned out to be the handsomest, most even tempered shepherd mix you'd care to see. Etc.

Current vape situation. All now configured to 1.8-1.9 ohms and running 7.4 to 7.6W
The Billet Box has a rebuildable VapeShell with 7 wraps of 30 Kanthal on 2mm
The Doggystyle has 8 wraps 30 Kanthal on 2mm topping the istick Pico 75W
The nautilus Mini is running a 1.8 nautilus coil on the ProVari Mini
Still juicing non-flavored 12-18mg 50/50

Wish the Billet Box was somehow lighter weight
Wish the Pico had a bit larger fire button
No complaints with the ProVari Mini :)

Thanks E !!! See you deleted the dog drama. Was just going to say that dogs can be hard to contain sometimes but a responsible owner will do what ever it takes to protect their pets. Even putting a garden fence topper on PVC pipe over a 7ft fence. That boy can jump but can't jump through wire and that's the only place he's ever gotten out. My miscreants, Mason and Sugar

Speaking of dogs, we had a bit of commotion tonight in the neighborhood. While eating dinner my wife said hey, there's a guy walking through our yard, it was my next door neighbor. There was also a stranger parked in my driveway with someone standing next to their truck, and several other people milling about, all because a loose dog got into a fight with another neighbors dog, and also bit a kid from the family of the attacked dog.

My neighbor has two dogs, and one, the female, is a large black dog which doesn't like me, even after several attempts to make friends with her with treats and calm talking to her. I worry that this dog will bite me at some point because he lets them run around onto my property at times, even though they have a large, well cared for and fenced in back yard...them running freely gives them the impression that my yard is their territory...some people really should not be allowed to have dogs, because they lack the mental capicity to understand these creatures, and train and confine them appropriately for the safety of their community.

So, what would be an appropriate level of response from me to this situation? Call animal control and create an enemy of my neighbor? Try to reason with an unreasonable person who may not appreciate my concerns? Maybe just wait it out and see how it all plays out?

If I had a dog that I had the slightest concern about them biting, I would put that animal down in a nano second...

I had to take a step back and think about it Hobbs, I had dogs for all of my formative years, and they were always well trained and restrained, if you catch my drift. I'm now surrounded by what seems to me a foreign culture regarding these animals. It's a little unnerving, and it's not the dogs I am angry at.
