Hello everyone,
Longtime lurker, bought a DSE901b when CaSH was still selling them, enjoyed it for two months (on the original atomizer!) and had an analog Camel in a moment of weakness, quickly returning to a pack a day habit. I'm charging my batteries back up right now and making a shopping list, and the USBpass is definitely on it.
Does the USBpass adhere to the USB spec? As in, does it not draw more than 500ma at 5V? I only ask because my motherboard is worth around $150, and I would hate to fry a couple of USB ports or even worse somehow short out the southbridge. Would I be correct in assuming I'm better off plugging it into an "indiscriminate" USB port like the powered port on my monitor?
If it does draw more than 500ma, has anyone considered a portable 2.5" hard drive-esque adapter? I don't know if you're familiar with them, but most 2.5" harddrives that don't require an AC adapter use a modified USB cable that plugs into two ports, drawing 500ma indiscriminitely from the "dummy" plug on the cable and whatever remaining voltage it needs from the plug that is also communicating with the host. Does the USBpass communicate with the USB host at all, or does it just use the port for power?
It's coiled up in this picture, but the cable looks like this:
