Kristin,

What is the correct position of the cart to the atty? I did look but couldn't find the answer. Oh, so far your method is working better than anything else I have tried. I am very happy I found the thread. Thanks.

Check out this guide thread: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...ng-you-ever-wanted-know-about-your-510-a.html

There is a picture in my post on how to align the cart to the atty.

One other question if you don't mind. If the juice is clear but the PTB is brown at top after vaping, does that mean it is burning? Thanks again.

I think it just gums up after a while and maybe carmelizes a bit? The hot part of the atty never actually touches the PTB if it's cut fluch with the cart - that coil bridge you see in it is a wick, not the heating element. But if the PG builds up at the end, it may get gummy and then discolor when heated? Or maybe it's the flavoring doing that. It's not the PTB though - you'll see it turns white again when rinsed. I usually use brwon or orange liquid, though.

When I see that after time, I just pop out the PTB, rinse under hot water, dry with a paper towel and pop it back in (it keeps it's flower shape!)

Thanks to Drew, from Nhaler.com, for those awesome tweezers, too!! LOL!

I don't know if this was mentioned, as I haven't read all the way through.. but those look like the tweezers I use when sewing. They are for turning material inside out through a small opening (can't remember the name offhand). I got my pair at the local fleamarket, but I'm sure any hobby/craft store carries them, and you may even find them at Walmart.

I'm anxious to test this out! Tomorrow's carts :) :) Thanks Krisitn~

This mod by far has worked the best. I've had success - fleetingly - with the ZFM (straw too long, straw too short, plug too flimsy, hole too big/too small) and the Blue Foam (plug too wide/too narrow/too thick/too thin), and was looking for an easy-to-fill, long lasting cart mod to use on my SB and USB PT at work. I picked up a pair of Mega 510 carts/atties from Totally Wicked and stuffed them with the PTB/straw. I settled on a straw length of .850" (21.5mm) for use in the Megas, and on the 5v PT, the cart lasts 4 hours. On the SB running 6v, it sucks it up like a '78 454 Chevy :D. The cart only lasts about an hour before I have to refill. The Mega carts initially hold about 23 drops of Johnson Creek Tennessee Cured (yum), and I've yet to try the mod with my other favorite, JC Red Oak Domestic.

Kristen, this is great - my goggles off to you.
Woof!

Well, I will try this method tomorrow. I am very, very discouraged with every other one I have been trying. too much trouble of course, but I've yet to get the blue foam mod thing right without getting a mouthful of liquid. I hope this works better. Same problem with refilling cartomizers, whether used or blanks, they never work well afterwards. Believe me, I've tried it all with those cartos. It just stinks if you refill them. I sure hope this PTB method works better, or I will probably give up and try to only order prefilled cartos, but that's just too expensive. Know anyone who makes modded carts and sells them....?

I've thought about carrying pre-made PTB carts on my ecig case website, but they are just so darned easy to make, it seems silly! :D

Just wanted to say thanks for figuring this out. I've tried all the techniques and materials pretty much and always come back to PTB. But your technique is working easier and better than anything I've done before. It's less fussy to do and holds more juice.

I use pen style exclusively, use both halves of a single bag, no straw, wrap it on a small bamboo skewer (blunt end - great cartridge tools btw) and just shove it in there and trim. "Wrap it" = somewhat tightly at very end and with a bit of a twisting motion, so that it's sort of a "spiraled flower" to start.

I did this with my penstyle as well. Tried one half and it wasn't enough (straw would not fit properly either, so left that out, it leaked, and stuck to the atty). Since the first half of the bag was already wet, I just hand wrapped the second around it. Twisted it in with my sewing tweezers trimmed it off. Pulled it out just slightly (maybe 1ml) snipped that off, pushed it back in, added more drops, and VIOLA!

Tastes GREAT! Thank you Kristin!

I've been having a terrible time finding the right material for the penstyle (problems with leakage, burnt material, etc) Topnotch for now!

He's right, Kristin. I had to order my ptbs because I could not find them here (and Charlotte is a pretty big city). It was very expensive considering I'll probably not use the tea and didn't need nearly so much material. Ordering premade carts in my situation probably would have been a better deal money-wise AND I could have been lazy!

Definitely NOT silly.....especially to those of us that are just too lazy to assemble the components to make :)

I know, they are certainly easy enough. Actually, all the mods I've read about for cartridges are easy. They just take a little practice is all. I'm just getting frustrated with my own failure at it. I suppose I need to give myself more time to get it down right and not so impatient with my own inability to do it perfectly the first time! Then there is the cartomizer refilling. I still can't get that right. Or maybe it's just the juices I'm using. They just seem to give me a mouthful of juice everytime, no matter how long I let them sit. Well, I'll keep trying. No more cigs for me, so I'm not giving up. But looking back at the directions and pics you put up, which are excellent by the way, it just doesn't seem like enough "fabric" to keep that juice from falling out all over the place. But I guess when I give it a go, it will make more sense. Thanks, Kristin.
Rags.

If you are using a 510, then you will NOT get any liquid in your mouth. This is the only mod that I've never had that happen with! :D

You'll be surprised that it's more fabric than you think & the straw has an effect that keeps it in the cart yet channels it to the atty. I don't know the exact physics of it - just that it works! lol

Finally found the answer I was looking for and am glad I didn't ask a question that had been asked numerous times before. I just got a Revolver Elite and am not real satisfied with the vapor from the supplied carts. They don't even compare to Nikko's video review. (Nikko, were those your own refilled carts?) I saw some posts about using the PTB mod and Kristin's Scotchbrite/Straw mod but was confused about the straw when using it with the carts I have. (I have seen others including Nikko say that these are M401 carts.) I guess the inner cart inside the mouthpiece does the job of the straw? Anyways, I can't wait to give it a go and report my findings.

Happy Vaping,

Did you try Walmart? That is where I found mine, on the coffee/tea aisle. They don't advertise "Pyramid Tea Bags" in large letters, you just need to examine the boxes a little closer. Check the specialty flavor ones. I also had some already (doh!) by another brand. The weren't the pyramid shape, but were made of the same material (silky).

HTH!

I'm not familiar with your model, but it sounds like you have one with a little removable cup inside the cartridge for holding the liquid and no barrier between that cup and the hole in the mouthpiece (like my old Smoking Everywhere RN4081)? If this is right, I would think any of the popular cart mods would either not work or require a different procedure for you? Kristin?

I searched the Lipton website for local stores carrying the product and got zilch. I also searched my Walmart Supercenter's website-nada. I haven't actually looked anywhere except my neighborhood Walmart.

Do you have Food Lions in Charlotte? If so you should be able to find them there. It's a small box... about the size of a pack of 3 1/2" diskettes.

Yeah, that's where I shop right near my house. I hope you're right. I wonder why it didn't come up on the Lipton's website? It had a function for finding a store near you that sells them. HHMM? I'll definitely check there and let others know what I find, but I have all I'll need for a while.
