So sitting in front of ECF vaping away at my Evo, I remembered a trick I learned from messing around with my Blackberry Curve. So here it is.

Pop the black plastic cap off the battery using your fingers. It shouldn't be too hard. Look for the LED. If you can't find it, blow on it for a sec to find it. Take a red Sharpie, and color it. That's it!

The LED does become a bit dimmer once you color over it, but this is an advantage in my case seeing as it attracts less attention.

PS: If you're not sure you want to keep it permanently, take a small piece of tape and place it over the LED before coloring. Then color over the tape. If you don't like it, you can always take the tape off later.

PPS: If anyone can figure out a more effective way to change the LED color without any soldering tools, let me know!

I just tried this with the tape using blue marker on a red/orange LED and it didn't work, it still looked orange. And I don't think I could use the marker directly on the LED, because I would be too afraid that I would want to eventually change it back. I think I might get a battery with a white LED and try it with that. But thanks for letting me know that I could take the battery cap off, it's a lot brighter now, I can almost use it as a mini flashlight, especially once I get one with a white LED. Maybe I could even build a small reflector.

Now that I know I can take the LED cap off (I always thought that it was attached to the LED and that if I pulled it out I would break the wires that connect it to the battery) I wonder if a fiber-optic cable could be attached to the LED that could hang out of the front of the e-cig, or be folded back and run down the side of the e-cig and secured with some glue. That way people who have trouble seeing their LED while their vaping would be able to see it's light a lot more easily. Not to mention that a line across the side of your e-cig that glows when you inhale would look pretty cool too.

Yeah, in retrospect, the color change isn't too drastic and is a bit disappointing. It worked a lot better with the white LED on my BB Curve.

The fiber optic thing sounds like an awesome idea though! I agree that the LED is a bit hard to see at times - a light running along the side of the e-cigarette would just be too cool. Let me know how this project goes for you.

First of all I don't know where to obtain fiber optic cable, and secondly I have no idea how it would have to be connected to the LED in order to function properly, as I don't really know much about the workings of fiber optic cables. I'm very apprehensive about making any modifications to my e-cig as it is, so doing something that I don't know anything about definitely is not something I'd feel comfortable doing. I don't know if I would just need to melt it to the led and glue in in place of if I would have to take the LED circuit apart and play with that, or if I could even use the LED that is currently in the e-cig. Finally, I don't have a problem seeing my LED, I've just rea here that a lot of people do. I'm sorry man, maybe someone else who knows a bit more about fiber optics could give this a shot. Maybe you could make a new thread about it to ask.

the problem with changing led color via cellophane, tape, or marker is... red, true blue, green leds put out a specific wavelength of light (like a laser), the only way to change it is via light mixing. in the case of a red led, adding a colored gel will just remove the bleed on the light and let the brightest portion show through, which will be a tiny red dot. if you get one with a white, yellow, or other mixed color type led, the marker, gel, cellophane method should work fine

DChrist721 - take off the battery end cap. then place an orange cartridge end cap over the end instead. You can then see the LED easily while vaping :)

I don't have any problems seeing my led. In my last post i specifically stated that too, lol.

Oh and it's "Crist" not "Christ." I get that all the time though, I just don't like being associated with any organized religions.
