So I was driving home from work today in stop-and-go traffic vaping on my full-sized Lavatube with an Ego Vision Clearomizer when I noticed the car next me had several young women in it who were giggling and pointing at me.

I looked around, thinking I had the end of my dress hanging out the car door, or left my bag on the roof, but I couldn't see what was so amusing.
I just kind of smiled at them and gave a little wave.
This seemed to amuse them further and they broke out in a fresh bout of giggles.

The traffic cleared a bit and I lost them, but we ended up next to each other at the next stop light.
It was the same thing - they were shooting glances at me and then giggling.

Finally, one of them rolled down the window and made motions for me to roll down mine.
Then she called out, 'What IS that?'
I told her, 'An electronic vaporizer.'
She actually looked disappointed. 'Oh, I thought it was for smoking (OTHER STUFF).'

What?!
Has this happened to other people before?
Am I going to need to prepare a response to people who think this and say something?
Do I need to worry about giving the wrong impression?
How do I prevent this? (Besides general public education?)

I guess I could hang a large sign from my car window saying, 'Vaper Inside!'
lol at the "Vaper Inside!" sign. Can we make them yellow and say "Vaper On Board!" just like those "Baby On Board!" signs people had in the late 80's?

Isn't it strange? Legal tobacco smokers are held in lower regards than people who smoke "other" things?

Also gotta say... Your avatar is awesome. That would be the Jack Nicholson of cats....if Jack were to wear a piece of lettuce on his head, that is.

Happens to me at the bar all the time.
I've gotten it once or twice at the bar too.

When people ask, the first thing I tell them is, "This is what got me off cigarettes. It supplies nicotine in a water vapor and satisfies my desire to smoke without being dangerous. It has flavorings in the vapor and replaces the habitual motions of smoking. It's a nicotine vaporizer. Some call it an electronic cigarette. The juices are available in over a hundred flavors, including some that replicate the flavors of tobacco. I get about 1/3 the nicotine that I got from smoking, but it satisfies the urge to smoke."

Attitudes change when you explain that it replaces tobacco without withdrawal symptoms. Without fail, they always tell me about their Husband, Wife, Son, Cousin, Uncle, Aunt, or friend who needs to know about these things. I give them the ECF link and they walk off smiling like they just discovered something wonderful.

A waitress in a restaurant asked me about my Provari the other day. She thought it looked like the memory eraser in "Men in Black"! Once I told her about it and she wrote down the ECF link, she came back in a few minutes and told me she had given the link to her boss who wanted to quit smoking.

Happens to me all the time. What is that? Is the a "insert illegal device name here"? Oh, it's one of those FAKE cigarettes? Can I try it? Banana.

On another note, I had a LEO take a real hard second look at me the other day in traffic. Still waiting to be pulled over for using it though. Sure it won't be long.

Not to me but have gotten some weird looks. A building I was at has a no smoking within 25' rule. I split the difference.

Use to be a Ham radio operator. Had a tiny microphone that was the size of a small cigar and I had someone pull up pointing and laughing. So I'm sure eventually it will happen.
Good conversation starter. LOL

Ok now your messing me up. I'm a big DIY type and I'm already thinking about how to make my PV look like that.
