Hi everyone. I am relatively new to building and need a bit of help to clarify what I thought I understood. I began my vaping journey 3 months ago and really caught the bug.I am now 8 weeks without a cigarette and have moved through some vaping gear from the ego battery and and horrid little cartomizers and then got the aerotank mega which was better but still not enough to keep the roll ups at bay so after getting bigger batteries I moved on to a sigelei 100w box and a smok silenus and then I wanted a dripper so got some Kanthal and an ohm meter and bought a steel punk slug and a vanilla mech and a kayfun v4 and a little boy and an atlantis and a hobo. Now I have read so much about coil building and safety and batteries and wire. I have had great success with single coils on the v4 and good results with dual builds on the little boy and the hobo. Did a great build on the hobo with twisted 30 swg dual running at 1ohm with great vapour and flavour using a vtc4 on the vanilla but today the vapour giant arrived with the quad build Uranos dripper. Now I know that my twisted 30 gauge at 12 wraps round 3 mm comes out at 2 ohms so I was aiming for a 0.5 ohm quad build on the uranos. I made 4 identical coils and when it was built it came out at 0.49 ohm. I wicked it with cotton and fired it up on the vapor giant using a fresh charged mnke 26650 but hardly got any vapor at all. I tried it on the sigelei at 40 watts but it was still very disappointing. I stacked 2 26650in the vapor giant and then it gave a lot of vapour but was much too hot. My confusion is that even though I had a sub ohm set up, does the actual amount of wire used to create said build have an effect on the output. Would a thinner gauge wire with less wraps, that still comes out to 0.5 ohm burn hotter and quicker with the single 26650 in a quad set up. I have not come up with any such information in the various on line calculators. Your experience will be greatly appreciated.

as you increase the numbers of coils, the ohms drop, but each coil still requires a certian amount of current to make it function properly... as you increase coils you need to increase the amp supply of the source ( batteries)... if you dont increase amp supply, the additional coils get less power making them run cooler.. now you have 4 coils running at minimal heat as compared to 2 coils running warm/hot
On a mech using quad is only 8 watts per coil.
and using a whole lot of low resistance wire will take forever to heat up correctly I bet you wrap 4 standard 4-5 wrap coils using 30-32 it would cloud out the room as the reaction time for a small piece of high resistance wire is pretty quick..
Basically you have gone outside the reaction limits of that amount of low resistance wire

Hi. I can get 8 volts on the vapor giant with stacked 26650's but that virtually shot flames out and was not a pleasant vape. I have just done a new build with 6 wraps of 30 gauge x 4 giving me 0.5 ohm overall. This works much better. Loads of flavour but the coil area is very small so not aa much cloud as I would like but I am only using a 50/50 blend.
Same power concentrated in half the space. It works, although those coils could be a little flatter without any straggling wraps on the ends. I'd of gone with 8-9 wraps twisted 30 for more power over more area. I'm at 7 wraps of twisted 30 gauge but if I had 4 coils to work with id probably go with 9 wraps.

Try steamengine to calculate your setting in advance. It also tells you whether the heat flux will be in a green range. Guess yours will show blue, which means that its too "cold"

Why dont you just buy lower gauge wire and do single or duals. I understand you are new and experimenting is 1 of the funnest parts of vaping, but in my experience i always get more vapor on 22-24 single then no matter what I do to 30g
Yeah, thanks guys. Im still struggling with the vapor output with the latest build. Going to see what I can do with my 27 gauge and if that doesnt hit then I shall try some tighter coils with more wraps of the 30. Maybe stack the 26650's again but with a higher ohm build. I will let you know.
stacking batteries is never a good idea, and really with the 100 watt box mod you have there is no reason to run any of your drippers on a mech
Try running it on your Sigelei at around 80 watts you'll probably find it works better than on a mech here's my dark horse quad 28 gauge nichrome parallel coil build at 12 wraps per coil at.25 ohms

at 80 watts this thing is a room foggerok now she is kicking. I did 6 wraps of 30 gauge around 2mm. This is a fair bit lower than I would have liked. She runs 2 ohms across the four. I have new MNKE 26650 and I will keep an eye on temperature
Your problem is that you need about 100 watts just to get that to vape in 2ohm Clearmizer heat ranges heat flux of around 100 or so.. Most sub ohmers work in the 200plus ranges which is going to start at about 150watts for your build.
I see what you are saying and I will be the first to agree that I am a bit of a .... like that. I gave up smoking on Jan 27th after smoking for more than 30 years. I would roll my own cigarettes and they would be very strong and I am seriously missing the hit so I am buying and trying to get satisfaction from vaping. I am looking for a bigger hit. I am sure that I can get that with a smaller build with less coils and a VV mod but I saw the vapor giant video and the quad core Uranos dripper and thought " Maybe this is it, the hit that I need."
