Smokers aren't quitting due to coronavirus

The Covid-19 pandemic has been an interesting turn of events for Big tobacco, which has taken a hit as smokers trade traditional cigarettes for vaping. Now, with many smokers stuck in quarantine and various state regulations banning certain vapes, traditional cigarettes are experiencing a revival. Shares of British American tobacco (which owns Lucky Strike, Pall Mall, and over 200 cigarette brands) and Imperial Tobacco have risen in the wake of the pandemic.

Not surprising at all. People are stressed. They're worried about coming down with the virus, worried about their jobs, and whether they're going to be able to pay their bills, etc, etc. None of this is conducive to quitting smoking. Meanwhile our oh-so-benevolent governments have come along with various vape bans, the closure of vape shops as "non essential", and generally made switching to a less harmful, less expensive alternative more difficult.
