Here I am with another question. They keep popping up in my mind.

You've heard Jesus say to 'go the extra mile.' We all understand what it means, but Scripture doesn't exactly say why Jesus used that particular expression. This one might be difficult to find as you may have to go to Roman law imposed on the Jews on this one.

Back in Biblical times, the Roman soldiers could make a Jewish person, I suppose mainly men, carry anything for them, say their shield, lunch boxes, books, KFC chicken for supper, swords, whatever the soldier was carrying, and they would have to schelp (carry) it for a mile. The Jews knew the exact place when the mile ended and they would hand everything, maybe minus a chicken leg or wing and a biscuit, ;) back to the soldier and go about their own business. That is why Jesus said when you are asked for a mile, go the extra mile. That is a sacrifice.....to go the extra mile. And, that phrase has lasted for centuries. Kind of cool, really. You cannot out give God. His shovel is larger. "The Lord loves a cheerful giver!" My mother-in-law is the epitome of what Jesus was talking about. She just gives without giving it a thought, and the Lord has richly blessed her. Scripture states that you reap what you sow. If you sow good, you will reap good....10 fold. If you sow evil, you will reap evil.....10 fold. In my condition, I'm not sure that I am able to go the extra mile, but the Lord did give me a mouth and I'm not afraid to use it!! HA!! :D

    No you can't
Very interesting since our Lord said it needs another look at as to put into another prospective.

Study study study and more study and still never get it all right.

The Scripture surly is alive and keeps on talking and it's always bring up new stuff I never knew about the Guy who put it all to together must really be the smartest guy around and the best teacher anyone could ever have.

Yep, it's so interesting to learn new stuff. I love the trivia that makes complete sense once you know the full story. You go, "ohhhhhhhhhh, I get it now!" Like I've already posted, I was hoping that other posters would post tidbits to share and make the rest of us THINK! It's good for us to think and share. I love it! :)
