You want to make sure you always use protected batteries.

Using a multimeter is nice bc you can check how much your batteries have left. Try to throw them back on the charger when they have about 25% left, they will last longer that way.
Having a digital multimeter also allows you to check the ohms of your attys and cartos.

Batteries have a certain amount of charge cycles in them. Normally toward the end of their life a battery wont hold a charge as well, last as long, etc. Thats when I get a new one. Thats whats nice about using a PV that uses non-proprietary batteries. Their cheap enough that you can always just get a new one

With Li-Ion batteries you want to make sure that you do not charge them too high (above 4.2V for 3.7V batts) and also that you do not over-discharge (below 3.2V for 3.7V batts). The charger should stop charging when the appropriate voltage is reached, but it would not hurt to check the voltage every now and then. You can also check the voltage of the discharged batteries to make sure the safety features of the Buzz Pro don't allow the voltage to get too low.
