Right now, I'm using two SmokTech Pyrex Aro II tanks on an Itazte VV 3.0. (So I can switch out flavors quickly when I bounce up against vapor's tongue.)

If I'm reading this right, the "flavor wicks" in the coils are supposed to help with gurgling and leaking. Do they serve any other purpose? Do you get more flavor out of your e-juice with them? Do you get more vapor with or without them? I notice sometimes there are 2, and even three flavor wicks when I first pull a coil apart. What effect would reducing it to just one flavor wick have?

Thanks for 'splainin' it all to me. I'll wear my n00b hat with pride! :nun:

When I was using BCC's I found a lot of inconsistencies in the heads , but flavor wicks are mainly there to prevent flooding , you can try replacing them with a tiny piece of cotton ball to improve wicking , it doesn't take very much , cotton really expands when wet , you'll have to experiment to figure out the right amount to use but I don't suggest running without a flavor wick , chances are it'll flood and gurgle .

I replace the tiny little flavor wicks with one 2mm silica wick section or cotton rolled to that diameter. I do it mostly for flooding and gurgling control. However IMO and this is just my opinion it does make for a more flavorful vape using it. I have experimented quite a bit with it in there and not and I can tell the difference. Maybe I'm a bit more sensitive to taste them some folks IDK. My guess is its designed to have warm vapor rise past it pulling flavor from the juice that's saturating it. IMO shouldn't touch the coil so the juice it has in it remains un heated and no chance of burning it so the flavor will remain pure. When I install it I leave it humped slightly in the center so it doesn't touch or lay directly on the coil. Please don't take any of this as gospel its all My opinion and what works well for me.

Flavor wicks on top of the coil also help reduce juice splatter. You can experiment with removing one, two or three, you can always put them back if you get leaking or gurgling.

yeah, just experiment, keeping in mind the thickness of your juice, airflow of your device and your draw style

I tried a few strands of "Peaches and Cream " yarn on top of Pro tank heads for a flavor wick but have not noticed a taste difference , however , when i use the yarn as my main wick i notice considerable differences in taste and actually prefer it to regular cotton ball wicks.

I'v heard about this elusive "Peaches and Cream" yarn. Why only that yarn and not any others? Sound's tasty. I almost want to find some and chew on it, lol.

Once I started rewicking with cotton (and now rebuilding my own coils) I don't need flavor wicks unless I'm a wee bit short on cotton.
I use 3mm silica wick when I recoil. There is enough wick in there that I don't need to add any flavor wick.

That is probably the only pure cotton yarn available in the United States.

I had been rebuilding my protank 2 heads without flavor wicks for a while, then I watched another video where a person used them so I decided to do a build with a flavor wick and I was pleasantly surprised, I thought it gave a little more vapor and seems to not have as much of a tendency to burn if you turn if the voltage, I'm all for them now

My first tank was a PT2 Mini. Loved that thing, still have it as a backup backup. In my opinion, the best starter atty out there.

When I started fiddling with those Kanger heads, the first thing I did was remove one of the two "flavor wicks," on top of the coil. Really improved the amount of flavor and vapor. So of course I took out the other one next... not good. Flooding through the 510 connection. :(

Eventually, I started building my own microcoils for my PT2 using cotton yarn. Super easy and another huge improvement. Again, with a single strand of yarn as a flavor wick.

I found that the flavor wicks helped to create a secondary seal to keep juice from leaking through the channel your wicks sit in. This is necessary to keep from flooding when the vacuum loosens, drawing too hard, etc.

Basically, dry hits mean you need less wick, flooding means you need more wick in the channel.

Flavor wicks are needed when the wicked diameter of the coil does not allow enough wicking of juice to supply the coil, so it's a way to provide enough juice to burn. It's kind of a cheat, dude said, "hey boss we need to redesign for a larger coil so that it will perform properly. boss said, hey just throw some extra wick on top the coil, see if that works. Instead of re-tooling and making it right, they cheated and added a "flavor wick". Heck, I've done it myself once or twice, when my densities and coil diameter doesn't match up. It's also a way of adding more wick in the juice entry port, so that juice is adequately blocked and won't seep in and flood the chamber.
