So my understanding of how this works can be found http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqz6TvAKcBQ<=---here. After knowing that the smoke is made by vaporizing the liquid in the cartridge. I took my cartridge off and took a drag without the cartridge and it made smoke. They say the smoke is made by water(assuming they mean the cartridge full of cotton&nicotine solution) but the smoke on mine isn't coming from the liquid. Can anyone explain that one?

This is Apollo Ciggs >-- http://www.apolloecigs.com/

Does anyone use these cigs?

Hi and welcome to ECF.

Inside an atomizer is a bridge which contacts the filler in your cartridge. It allows liquid to flow onto wicking material near the heating element of the atomizer. Both the wick and the bridge will hold some liquid so you can get vapor even without the cartridge attached. It will hold several drops so you can successfully vape for quite a few drags before it runs out of liquid. I wouldn't suggest doing it for long because if it runs completely dry the atomizer will overheat and taste really bad, or worse, burn out. You can also just drip fluid directly into your atomizer to keep it wet. This technique is called dripping but isn't recommended with automatic batteries.

The wick of the atomizer soaks up liquid from the cartridge and carries it to under the atty bridge where the heating element is. When you take off the cart there is still liquid in the wick and also in the mesh of the bridge. When the liquid runs out you could singe the wick or stress the atty.

And it's not water. It is glycerin (PG and/or VG) and flavoring and nicotine. There may be a small amount of water or alcohol.

The liquid in the cartridge is wicked down into the atomizer, where it is heated and turned into vapor, NOT SMOKE.

If you take off the cartridge, there is still liquid present inside the atomizer, and will be for 5-6 puffs, until it dries out.

It is not technically "Water Vapor", the e-juice is comprised of Propylene glycol and/or Vegetable glycerine, nicotine, and flavoring. You are inhaling the vaporized form of that juice.

You shouldn't vape your PV with the cartridge removed unless you are dripping more fluid inside the atomizer every couple of puffs, as it will cause the atomizer to dry out, and either burn the wicking, burn the remnants of old fluid, or burn out the coil, breaking it.
