Question about steeping juices

New member here. I've been vaping (and analog free!!) for 2 weeks today. I see a lot of talk about steeping juices. Just how do I do that? And does it really improve the flavor of the juice? BTW--I ordered my very first juice samplers yesterday. 2 different sample packs from HHV. With so many flavors I wanted to try, I couldn't stop at just one. Can't wait for them to arrive!!

First off steeping is the wrong word everyone is using... its aging. and in most cases aging isnt needed unless you are buying NET's ( Naturally Extracted Tobacco ) or WTA's ( Whole Tobacco Alkaloid) altho there are juices out there that have alcohol as a mixing agent in them and its suggested to open up the tops of the bottles to let the alcohol evaporate ( gets rid of the alcohol zing). Nicotine will oxidize and turn from clear to yellowish to tan. Depending on the other flavorants involved, the color shift can even go as far as dark brown....

and BTW good choice on the vendor..... They are the only one I buy from... ( Legend and Pirates Booty my favorites)

Legend and Pirate's Booty are 2 of the flavors I ordered. Especially looking forward to Pirate's Booty. It was my first pick.

About steeping/aging - Glad to know I am not missing out on anything. I don't see myself buying natural tobacco. I don't want anything more to do with tobacco. I've had enough.

I am using a Vision spinner and Ce4 atomizers and they work just fine for me for now. Not getting into anything fancy just yet. But I do see the day coming when I will splurge on something more expensive. I will also try my hand at mixing my own juices at some point soon.

The novelty of vaping and finding an alternative to analogs that actually works is enough for me right now. Can't believe that I am not even craving the nasty things. :2cool:

Im new at vaping, mostly using halo liquids. I dont usually step or age, what i usually do i having some bottles open, and i consume it mostly under 1 month. What i notice is that most stronger flavors get less stronger over the time, probably due to ammount of air being trapped inside bottle. With some stronger liquids, i think it benefits from having this interaction.
Also i noticed on the first 1-2 days after bottle is opened is much more stronger, i dont know if nicotine reacts too quickly with air, or something else. I usually keeps it on Air conditioned room 20C, and with blue cobalt halo glass it dont react at all with light. After a month or so color is almost the same.

just wondering... which ones did you get??

My bad, I said below that I ordered Legend, but I opted for Dragon's Fire instead. The samples I ordered are below:

E-Liquid 3ml Sample 4 Pack (12mg 70/30)

Flavor #1 - Menthol Ice
Flavor #2 - Pirates Booty
Flavor #3 - Mocha Java Smooth
Flavor #4 - Tuscan Cocoa

Flavor #1 - Vanilla Dream
Flavor #2 - Dragons Fire
Flavor #3 - Crackberry
Flavor #4 - Shadow

I don't see myself letting anything sit around very long either. Except for flavors that I don't particularly like. I've seen a lot of vapers post that they go back to something they didn't like after some time has passed and wind up loving the flavor. That will probably be my experience as well.

Thank you and Halo liquids are a brand I will try out myself.

but I do have to admit both Legend and PB are very good vapes...

How long have you been vaping?? if its a short time period, then you will find the Legend and PB helpful in making the transistion... :)

Thank you for the info. I have been vaping for 2 weeks today. Now I have a question about natural tobacco extracts. I can safely assume there are no (known) carcinogens in them, right?

I thought long and hard about getting the PB because I do love PB cookies!

I have found that sitting my juice in a window sill for a few days seems to age them just enough to make the flavor i tried in the shops come through. I tried filling a tank in the parking lot of the shop once and it just didn't taste the same. They mix the juice when ordered. It has a "born on" date and all. About three days is all it takes. I also have some bottles that are about a month or so old and they seem to be losing their intensity flavor wise. I imagine it all boils down to what your personal preferences are. I like my flavors to pop. The vapor is always there. My:2c:

I bought the juices I am using now at my local vape shop. The bottle says to store it in a cool dark place or in the refrigerator for extended life. That's why I was confused about steeping and leaving the bottle open, etc. What a noob i am!!

Thats the whole purpose of the NMF. To ask the questions and try to receive informative information. You will find that you will most likely get as many different answers as reply posts. What you have to understand that we are all different and have different preferences. The wonderful thing about vaping is that you DO have so many different options and choices. You can experiment with just about anything and you dont have to worry about killing yourself or shortening your life in the process! The journey we are all on is a personal one. Treat is as that. YOURS! Hope we helped and HAPPY VAPES!!

First off steeping is the wrong word everyone is using... its aging.

Steeping eliquids is all about "diffusion" per Hoosier and Kurt--who just happen to be experts on the subject.

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/ask-veterans/158262-steeping-explanation.html#post2594434

Merriam-Webster:
steep

verb: to put (something) in a liquid for a period of time

Full Definition of STEEP

transitive verb
1
: to soak in a liquid at a temperature under the boiling point (as for softening, bleaching, or extracting an essence)

2
: to cover with or plunge into a liquid (as in bathing, rinsing, or soaking)

3
: to saturate with or subject thoroughly to (some strong or pervading influence) <practices steeped in tradition>

I believe that our definition of "steeping" of eliquids is described in definition 1.

Steeping, aging, diffusing... it's all good! :D

And in most instances unnecessary... :p

I've never met an ejuice that was unvapable right out of the box. Just try them--if you like them, vape them. If you don't like them, let them sit for a while... They may get better, but they also may get worse. ;)

Welcome and congratulations!

The best thing about the new member's forum is that all are welcome. No such thing as a stupid question, am I right? Some of these new members posts are really quite funny though. "I've been vaping for 3 days and I've gone from this set-up to that set-up and right now I am digging such and such". LOL. Hope no one finds that comment offensive. I don't mean it to be. Some have more disposable income than others and that's OK. It all makes the world go 'round.:toast:

I'm one of those that requires long steep times, even after 2+ years of vaping. The flavors that get mixed together do require time to combine into their eventual flavor. It's really no different from cooking where you combine the ingredients then let it simmer for a few hours. The ingredients could just be stuck together and heated as quickly as possible and served but the taste won't be the same.

Heat helps speed up the process which is why putting the juice on the window sill worked. Trouble is that the nicotine in your juice breaks down in sunlight. So you also reduced the nicotine content in your juice. Hence the store in dark recommendation others have made.

Sunlight breaks down the nicotine. That explains it and is helpful to know.
