I've seen many here who have said that they allow their juices to "steep" for a period of time. I am rather curious as to the reason behind this? I brew my own beer as one of my hobbies, and I know depending on the type of beer I make, that I have to allow the beer to condition to allow the flavors to mellow and meld (depends on my grains, crystals, malt, hops, and ABV%). Is this the reason for allow juices to "steep"? Is there a "mellowing out" process that really does take place chemically within the juice such as the process that takes place in beer?

You know, I wondered a bit about this at first myself, but I really do think it has some validity. There obviously is some sort of continuing reaction over time because many of the juices will darken in color. They tend to thicken a little too over a longer period of time, but I think that is probably just due to evaporation. I have actually noticed that some flavors mellow out over the coarse of time. I don't think I am just imagining it. We cure everything else with age, like tobacco, liquor, meat, so it doesn't seem implausible that e-juice would cure. The way I imagine it is very much what you said in the original post.

I've heard from all the manufacturers that the nicotine is what darkens due to exposure to oxygen. I too notice that flavors tend to mellow out over time, and I don't think I'm imagining it either. I have hit "flavor walls" when vaping 1 flavor too consistently, but I've switched up flavors regularly now and even revisiting flavors they still don't have the same flavor kick they did when I first received them. I've stopped buying large quantity bottles because they never taste quite the same as the first 2-3 weeks when I receive them, and this is pretty much with any juice I get from any manufacturer. Some have completely gone rancid on me in 2 months.

I think it has more to do with the actual Flavorings used. Just like all food stuff, some is better steeping some not, some takes minutes some takes days. If you make a pot of Tea it has stepped in 30 mins to an hour. While Marinades and some soups and what not are better the next day. Beef takes several days to reach perfection before it should be cooked, fish and poultry should be cooked within hours of slaughter to get the best results. The trick with food is too keep it stored correctly so that it reaches perfection before it goes rancid. I believe if you keep your Juice in a cool dark place like you would Wine it will mature without going rancid. The truth of the matter is this, they are all different too many variables for one fits all. What type of flavorings Pg Vg did the vendor use, how long did it sit before being shipped, ect.. For me its just trial and error, which is half the fun :) Because of my health issues I am more careful then most maybe. I love vaping and all its little secrets I learn something new everyday about it.

Cheers and Happy Vaping,
