Question about "The Shorty" from E-Cig Workshop

So I've been vaping with mech mods for a bit now and have decided that I would like to expand my collection with a wooden box mod. I came across E-Cig Workshop's "The Shorty" and fell in love with it. In short, my question is will I still be able to subohm if I purchase one? Due to the construction, I'm not sure if it's fully mechanical or if there are any wires or anything that could get fried.

They say to use protected batteries with The Shorty. Protected batteries are old technology ICR. The consensus here is that they are more dangerous than IMR batteries. IMO I would not buy a mod that can only use ICR batteries.
