hi all,
i recently had a discussion with a co-worker about her attempt
to switch to ecigs.
apparently she tried one of the cigalikes for about 4 weeks
but, gave it up because they were giving her headaches.

having had read posts indicating possible alergic reations to
dg i researched and found the brand she chose used vp.
i know shes alergic to potato's so i researched how vp
was made.
mostly from vegatable oil.this is made mostly from soy bean seeds.
they use other vegatable seed but no potatoe.

good thing i scrolled down the google results page.
this is what i found.

a lot of vegatable oil is recycled.its used for many things.
the main source of recycled v-oil comes from potato proccessing plants
then restuarants.
recycled from the're friers.

there you go i found the potato in the vegatable oil.
i know an alergy to potato's is not common but, what about
those folks alergic to fish?
restuarants fry a lot of fish.

this brings me to my point.
is the vp in ecig juice made using fresh vegatable oil
or recycled oil.i would assume both depending on cost
and availability.
it is a known problem that recycled oil could be a problem
with people that have certain food allergies.
i hope the vendors and manufacturers are aware of this.
heads up to you diy'ers.

regards
mike

The basic ingredients of eliquid are:

The Base, or carrier (the part that produces visible vapor):
PG (propylene glycol, also used in many medicines, cosmetics and processed foods)
VG (vegetable glycerine, also called glycerol, also used as a sweetener and a humectent in food)

The Active Ingredient:
Nicotine, extracted from tobacco

The Inactive Ingredients:
Flavoring (usually artificial but can be organic; usually PG-based, but could be alcohol- or water-based)
Water (may be used in liquids with a high percentage of VG)
Alcohol (ethanol; typically used as an emulsifier for citrus and mint flavorings)

Vegetable Oil is not used in quality eliquid.
It is possible that some low-quality liquids have been produced with soybean oil-based flavorings but the top manufacturers would never use any ingredient that contained more than a trace of vegetable oil.

Mike, here is a little information regarding VG & PG. The only VG you should use is pharm. grade and that is mostly synthetic anyway.

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/diy-e-liquid/277267-purity-pg-vg-peg-short-version.html

The reason for headaches can be numerous. It could be from quitting smoking. It could be too little nicotine, it could be too much nicotine. We don't know the device your friend had. Maybe post in new members for your friend and tell about her smoking habits- How long she smoked, how much, the type of cigarettes.

People would be happy to give suggestions. Extremely doubtful it's from VG. Although not impossible I guess. Less than 10% of people are allergic to PG and probably even less allergic to VG.

I pretty much stick to the registered suppliers here and haven't had a problem. Good luck!
