I know the Vamo doesn't fire coils under 1.2ohm but does it give an accurate reading of coils under 1ohm? Is the ohm meter pretty accurate in general? I'm thinking of getting one of these as just for testing resistance (I'm mostly using mechanicals) and as a backup. My multimeter is crap and buying a Vamo is about the same price as a decent multimeter.

Buy the multimeter

I would second this, in my experience the VAMO is a great device. However when checking a new or cold coil without actually firing it, I get a reading higher than what I get after firing the VAMO and then checking the resistance. Of course it could just be my unit, but if you are checking untested coils, you may not want to have to fire them first to get the true reading. The multimeter doesn't have to be expensive, many people here have recommended one from Harbor Freight that sells for a ridiculously low price, Wal Mart has them for cheap too, in the automotive section.

I've found the ohm readings on the Vamo are accurate but it isn't designed for reading under 1.2 ohms. If you want something to read super low resistance then get a multimeter.
