hi all

i am unsure i understand how atomizers work

after a couple of weeks my juice flavour dissapates and so i replace my coil head. is this because of the wick?

or do the coild heads just 'go' on you and need replacing?

being on a budget i am just trying to see if i can save a few pounds re-wicking the coil heads or whether this is pointless

thanks in advance

Several things can happen over time with an atty.

1. Worst case, the coil can burn out. This would require replacing the coil (if possible) or discarding the atty. Mosty atty's are designed as consumables.
2. The wick, over time, starts to gum up and therefore doesn't draw e-liquid up to the coil. Often just cleaning the atty by soaking it will work (I usually use vodka, but many people just use water).
3. Sometimes, though, the heads just get too gunked up (particularly if you tend to occasionally burn your e-juice because the wick is too dry) and they just have a bad taste that won't go away. In this case, the coil/wick is trashed. Replace or discard.

What type of tank are you talking about ?

The reason i ask is some tanks can be re-built ie re wick and wire, and some like the stardust cannot be re-built.

I'm not surprised, snout71.

I get a week at most on the atomizer heads I buy and use for my various clearomisers. If I clean them up and dry-burn the coil, I can extend it to 2, sometimes 3 weeks. I got a month out of one once, I guess I dry-burned it 4 or 5 times.

Let's be clear. Some people can vape on a really gunky coil, others notice a drop in taste in just a few days, and then of course, the performance will drop off.

I went to a shop today in Handsworth to buy a new type of clearomiser. I bought it and 3 extra heads. The heads were £1.50, so even a week is good enough for me.

Although I can "re-build" atomizers (of almost any type) with new wick and wire, I tend not to bother.
However, it's certainly worth learning how to do it and if money is tight and you can make even 6 of them in an hour, you could save a lot of money over months of vaping. The thing is, when I started, they were £2.50 or even £2.99. As I get protank heads (made by Kanger as well) for £1.20, I don't feel the need to make my own. Some people feel they get better flavour from making their own from quality wick, but I never found this. A new one is a new one. :)

Thank you for that - I'll order and the wait won't be so bad as I had my first lot of wick and wire arrive in the post this morning as I was getting fed up paying £14 for a pack of 5 with postage so I'll be tinkering around trying to get my ohms right and not leaking juice all over my mod!

Just ordered some wick and wire myself never tried it before but it will save me some cash

Good luck with that... I'm having a bit of nightmare trying to build coils myself!

The problem with the taste dissipating could just be something along the lines of vapers tongue too. Basically, if you use one juice a lot then you cant taste it as well the more you have it. First time i have a juice i really like it tastes marvellous then if i hammer it for a few days then the taste reduces drastically. Mix up what you are vaping as much as possible (I like to have at leasr 3 or 4 flavours on the go at the same time) and you may find that the taste improves again :)

i think its wise to boil the cotton padding and letting it dry to ensure you are not vaping any chemicals

gratz on your first coiling and wicking
Cheers for that, it's 100% fairtrade cotton, but think I will start boiling to be safe - I gave up fags to stop inhaling nasties, don't wanna start by accident again!
