It lasts as long as it lasts. (Kinda' like asking how long a football lasts as too much depends on the user.)

When it dies, it will be obvious, it will not fire. You are doing alcohol soaks, so getting airflow clogs will be rare. The only thing left to go wrong without completely killing it is a gunked coil. (Flavor and vapor production will go down if that happens.)

My humble opinion is that the HH 357 is some sort of Cadillac of atomizers. This long is more than any "normal" atty would last anyway. Mine refuses to die as well. I'm guessing at some point will either (1) stop producing vapor (the coil pops) or (2) start producing less, but much hotter vapor, and itself gets really hot (the coil partial shorts) or (3) the drag becomes hard (the air holes, etc. become clogged in spite of your regular soaking). With no wick and no bridge, it should not get funky tastes or burnt flavor like other atties do.

My follow-up question for more experienced someone is: what happens if the coil shorts and you are vaping on a dumb mod (mechanical or electrical without protections?)

Things will get very warm and hopefully the protected battery's protection circuit will stop the current flow before thermal runaway. A safe chemistry battery, in a full short, should just get very warm....not hot enough to boil water, but still fling it from the hand kinda' warm.

My dumb mod got a lot smarter.

Now if an atty shorts out, it just doesn't fire

The kick is a nice little buck boost power controller that will hold your desired wattage setting along with offering protection against things like shorts. Makes a dumb mod smart :)

It's the piece sticking out the top above the battery.

It's a pretty new item available at a few places now. Here's one such location:
