I have some questions about the istick 40w. I always use a VW setup but i noticed it's way too easy to switch to TC mode. If this happened accidentally and i tried to vape on a kanthal 1.8 ohm coil would anything bad happen? What exactly would happen? The lock feature doesn't prevent this from happening. After reading threw all the dangers of using TC setups it makes me feel uncertain whether or not to even use the mod. Thanks for any info.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't it kick you out of TC mode if you're not using a TC compatible build or tank? I know pbusardo addressed that in his video review of it, you may want to check it out.
Thanks for the reply. I checked out the video then tested it out myself. It does indeed put it into VW as a safety feature if it's above 1 ohm.

Low ohms as well, so it's not just the max TC res limit triggering it.

I just tried a 0.2 Kanthal and it kicked out of both Ni and Ti modes. What's nice is that it dropped the watts to 20, a probably safe middle ground for low ohm builds. Maybe not so much for a 1.8 or higher.
I suspect it notices the lack of rise in the resistance vs. TC wires.

Some mods (many? most?) do this, some don't. The D2 is a famous example because of the K in TC workaround for low watts, as it lacks a voltage step-down circuit in Power Mode.

Which leads to... it's safe to use Kanthal in TC mode (if possible), it's the other way around that raises concerns. How hot do we get in Power Mode? Are Nickel and Titanium safe there?
Dunno... but I don't do it just to find out. :p

I've noticed that the iStick TC40w sends a slight jolt every 2-2.5 seconds to check possibly the temperature and the existence of an atomizer. This probably is what detects if the temperature coefficient of the coil is Ni200 / Titanium / Whatever is correct, and adjusts if it not, and switches to variable wattage mode. To Jim_MDP, I'm not sure if it changes the wattage to 20, you may have already had that set before switching to TC mode.
