Hi Folks,

I've been interested in gettting into rebuilding for a while, and just did my first build on the Subtank Mini rta (subox Mini Starter Kit). I was definitely intimidated by rebuilding and uncertain I would get it right, but I figured it was time to take the plunge. I used the prebuilt coil it came with (.5 ohms) so all I really had to do was wick it. It's hitting great, so I'm really happy right now :)

My question is, what wattage range do you find appropriate for use with the Subtank Mini rta?

I was using the OCC Vertical coils at around 20 watts, give or take. I'm finding that the RTA hits like a truck at 20 or even in the high teens, with a pretty warm vape. I took it down to the 12-15 range and that seems to suit me well, but the vape is still on the warmer side and I generally prefer a cooler vape.

Did I do anything wrong? Or is the RTA generally used at a lower wattage range than the pre-built OCC Verticals? I don't mind using it at lower wattage. The clouds are good, flavor is good (not burnt at all) and it would save me battery life. I just want to make sure I'm doing this right, haha.

Thanks in advance for any responses, and happy vaping to you all!

Thanks for the reply. I am continuing to get good vapor production and no dry hits, so it seems that everything is working well. Now I'm just wondering if there's a way to get the vape cooler without dropping into the single digits for wattage and thus losing flavor.

Is it possible that I used too much cotton for my wick? Does less cotton = less heat?

More airflow or lower wattage are pretty much the only options to cool your vape with that coil.

The amount of cotton could affect the airflow i guess, if you've put so much in there that you've smothered the coil, but i doubt that seeing as you're having no dry hits.

You could also try using a lower gauge, thicker wire to wrap your coil as that can give you a cooler vape.

No worries, i hope your mission for a cooler vape brings you success [emoji12]

Thanks!

I also prefer a cooler cape and the subtank works great.

I currently have I wraps, 28 ga, 2 mm - 1. 27 ohm at 16 watts.

Provides me a good cape.

Great to hear that a cool vape is possible on the subtank. Thanks for the specific advice, but how many wraps was that? I'm assuming you hit "I" instead of 8 or 9 on a keyboard but want to confirm :)

Congrats on your first build.

I rock a Goblin Mini and Kayfun Nano.

I build them at .8-1 ohm and run them at 15-17.5 watts I took the GMini to 32 watts but it was way too warm for me.

Yes it is 8 wraps and I did hit "i" by not holding long enough. [emoji1]

Sweet! I'm now thinking about getting a dedicated RTA since I'm gonna be building my own coils. I've heard really good things about the Goblin and Kayfun. Would you recommend one over the other? I've heard that Kayfun's are known for their great flavor. Do you find that to be the case? I'm more of a flavor chaser than a cloud chaser.

Awesome! I'm probably gonna try that build ASAP.

The Kayfuns have good flavor. The Taufun has good flavor. The Aqua V2 has decent flavor.

Never used the original Goblin. But in my opinion the Goblin Mini has the best flavor.

The Kayfun Nano is almost as good as the GMini.

I like the GMini because it cones with a silicone plug to plug one side of the airflow and juice wells.

The GMini has a very claustrophobic deck for building.I was barely able to fit a 2.5 mm coil on one side of the deck.

Since this is your first real RTA you may want to start with a Kayfun Lite Plus or Tailfun because you have more room and they use a single coil. Building where everything is so tight might scare you off building before you learn to appreciate it.

I am having a blast building coils and wicking them.

No problem. I want your first RTA to be easy to build on.. The taifun and Kayfun will give you an easier time building on.

After you gain experience then building on something that is claustrophobic or complicated building those will not be as intimidating. No one is helped by throwing them in the deep end of the swimming pool.

Very well put, and I appreciate you helping point me in the right direction. I'm gonna get a Taifun or Kayfun (or something comparable, that is easy to build on) and once I get comfortable will consider another tank. Part of the beauty of getting into rebuildables and DIY is that I'll have more money in my vape budget for more tanks in the future.

Thanks again!

That's not why I use RTAS.

1. I don't have to rely on buying coil heads all the time.

2. I don't have to worry about getting bad coil heads.

3. I don't have to worry about my tank has fallen out of favor and the coils for my tank are no longer made.

4. I am in control of the ohm levek and vaping experience. This is why I DIY my own ejuice.

5. If the FDA DOES SOMETHING STUPID; it will not affect me. VG and PG are used so many ways they will not be outlawed. Wire is used in electronics and can't be outlawed. I can get organic cotton at CVS, Walgreens, etc. I have multiple tanks RDAs, RTAs etc.

Always go with what works for you with the juice you are running. Depending on the juice I vape it in the 12-15W range, usually on a .6ohm coil

Absolutely. A vape that isn't satisfactory is useless.

I also vape low 15-17.5 watts.

Getting into the 17W range would burn some of the juices I'm running lol Might get better once I go with thicker wire, so I have the heat spread out over a larger surface area. Still waiting for that 24AWG to arrive.
