Hi everyone! I have just ordered my first ecig ever! I am waiting on the package, but I am super excited about it :D Anyway, my question is: I am hoping that the VK will help me quit off of analog cigs and I have noticed throughout this forum that people have a counter at the bottom of their posts that say how long they have been "cig" free and how many they have not smoked in that amount of time...can anyone help me figure out how I can start my own counter as well? Thank you!

First, Welcome Aboard!

As far as the counters that you see in the signature lines, you won't be able to add one to your own until you have a minimum of 15 posts here in the forums. If you haven't already done so, read, read, read and read some more. Use the search feature and you'll find all the answers to all your questions and if not, ask away.

You'll find that the majority of members here have completetly stopped smoking analogs (regular tobacco cigarettes) either immediately after getting their e-cig (I prefer to call them PV - Personal Vaporizer) or have continued to reduce their analog use dramatically. After 36+ years, I instantly quit, putting my analogs in a drawer and haven't touched them since. There is a learning curve with PV's. Physically, you'll be getting the nicotine into your system which is most of what smoking cigs was all about, but a lot of it has to do with training your brain to accept vaping as an acceptable alternative that works for you.

PV's don't taste exactly like a real cig but they come close (to me anyway). I actually like the taste better and have already purchased/tried different flavors which I really like. I had absolutely NO withdrawal symptoms whatsoever. Starting from day one, I sleep better, breathe better, feel much better, smokers cough is gone, my sense of taste and smell have gotten a LOT better, I definately have more energy.

You'll find that a lot of people still use analogs for some time as they learn the vape and that's ok if that's what you need to do. But if you really want to quit analogs completely, you probably can do so a lot easier than you think with these e-cigs.

Good Luck!

A point about your quitting analogs...

Bear in mind that a HUGE aspect of the addiction to smoking is the physical habit. If any
of your friends disagree, watch them for signs of their physical habits: Nail biting, playing
with their hair, etc. and then offer to tie their hands for three hours. See how much it
drives them crazy to go without being able to "scratch that itch", if you will.

Because of this, it's going to be important to choose an alternative that your brain
will accept. Some folks get devices that resemble an actual cig because it's easier for
the brain to accept: the way a cig feels, etc. If your first device doesn't accomplish
this, don't give up. Try something different; just make sure it is different. If you can't
get into a pen-style, for instance, don't run off and buy a different brand of pen-style-
get a Bartleby, screwdriver or Chuck to try out.

Excellent advice you guys! Thank you so much for your input....I am VERY optimistic that using this new alternative will completely get me off of the analog cigs...I have tried in the past, but like mccordrm was saying, a lot of it is the physical action of hand to mouth and throat hit that I am addicted to. So, having the feel of a "cig" and still being able to do all the actions from "smoking" will help tremendously. :D Thanks again for the advice..and I'll start working on posting more so that I can also have my CIG FREE counter! :D

Even though you won't be able to post your quit meter in your sig until you reach member status (10 posts, I think), you can make one now at SmokeFree Quitmeter. You can enter your quit date, how many analogs you smoke, and the price you pay per pack. It'll create the banner for you. I've bookmarked mine - every so often I'll take a look and see how far I've come. Four months! $1300! And at 5 minutes per smoke, 400+ hours I would have spent sitting outside alone I've spent with my family and friends instead.

When I first got my PV, it was solely to have an alternative to analogs when I was in places I couldn't smoke. I had no intention of quitting my 20-year, 2 pack/day habit. I started the PV and loved it. I carried a pack of analogs around with me, fully expecting to have one once in a while. After a week of not missing them one bit, I tossed them and haven't looked back. This thing is like a miracle - I get all the "benefits" of smoking (my nic addiction is fed in a familiar manner), and all of the benefits of being a non-smoker - I can breathe, I don't stink, I'm considerably less poor, and can go anywhere without worrying how I will sneak off for a smoke.

Best of luck to you!

Oh yes I know :) I am still very much looking forward to getting it and quitting my nasty "smoking". V4L is still an awesome company and I'm still very pleased with them...I actually sent them an email to let them know what had happened and they asked for my correct address and they are shipping everything I ordered out before they even get the returned package so that I can get it sooner :D
