Questions About Age

I've been reading a lot on this forum about people buying e-cigs and such for their mothers, fathers and other older
friends and relatives. Many of the posts talk about the recipient not being able or willing to make the transition. I wonder what the barriers are?

I am 57 and I am embracing this change. Are there lots of vapers my age or older and it just isn't really talked about?
I realize that I am making this choice myself, and maybe that is what the big difference is.

This has really got me thinking. (Also pictures of Leonard Nimoy with an oxygen tank in a wheelchair talking about having COPD and at 82 quitting smoking 30 years too late. Sigh.)

my mother was a 40 year smoker and once she tried vaping with me, she threw the remaining cigs away and has never looked back. she feels better for it and loves the wide choices in juices in her vape. she says it is the best change (and amazingly easy one) she ever made in her life. she feels she upgraded from smoking stinkies and how amazing that it is better for you...she was not very open about switching at the beginning as she was so used to traditional cigarettes... but once she tried it and i taught her all she needed to know to have a great vaping experience she says she would never go back to stinkies...

For me it went the other way, my dad is almost 70 and my mom is 58. They found about ecigs while snowbirding in Az so then sent me a starter kit and changed both mine and my families lives. My dad was a hardcore smoker and insisted he would smoke until he died, now we are all converts and have brought some friends with us for the ride.

The one time they find new tech before I do, and they won't let me live it down.

I'm sure there are plenty of people around your age or older that are/have switched to e-cigs. My mother's friends switched a while back. I'm considering starting with e-cigs instead of going back to smoking after 2 years of not smoking at all, and at the same time try and get my 55 year old father and 53 year old mother to make the switch.

So you are from Asspucker? Really? Who am I to judge?

Your relationship with your mom made it easy. You didn't shove it down her throat. You showed her and let her decide. The e-cig stuff works really well. You can't make someone quit.

Hello Karmea and welcome. Age has nothing to do with one's ability or willingness to switch to vaping. Zero. One of the most popular threads in the General Forum has been started by 'older' vapers:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...-older-folks-vaping-front-porch-part-2-a.html

The barrier usually is the unwillingness of the other person to quit--not age. It applies not only to parents or grandparents, but also to husbands, wives, siblings, friends, partners and even children.

Congratulations on your decision and good luck!

I'm 62 and started vaping over a year and a half ago. There are lots of us older folks around here. Don't worry you have lots of company.

I am 57 and love it. I thought I would never stop cigs. I am about a month into it.

I search for smokers to show them e-cigs. I don't care if they listen or pay attention. Maybe next time they will.

Some people aren't ready. I started just to see if it could possibly work. I guess I was ready to quit. I didn't even tell anyone.

I have younger friends that have parents my age and they are having success. In my mind, if you can quit with a Blu, you already wanted to quit in the first place.

I don't mind dicking with stuff a little to ensure a great vape. Others want it to be easy and therefore expensive and less effective. I would assume they aren't ready to quit yet.

I'm about a month into all this and having the time of my life while not smoking! In April I will be 72, married 49 years, grandmother of 18!

One of my young adult granddaughters found out I was vaping and called me. She said she was very interested for herself. I ordered a Kanger starter kit for her birthday present, and when it arrived she came over and I "taught" her how to vape. She left with her new kit and a big smile on her face. She says all her 20-something friends think she has the coolest grandma ever.

Just think you are the trendsetter for all those young hip hooligans now, who will experience way less years of tobacco harm because of you. You are gonna be the Awesome Granny B. I salute you.

you out should get Awesome Granny B as a tag under your username just because.... Do it Mods.

Thank you. That's sweet for you to say. Actually, my user name is my "grandma" name, Bugga, given by my first grandson when he started to talk. He wouldn't say granny, or nana, just insisted I was "Bugga". Of course, the name stuck like silly names do. All the grandkids have called me that. He is a tall handsome 22 year old now, and it still warms my heart when he calls me Bugga in his deep baritone voice.

Vape on!
There is no age limit for making smart decisions, but the older we get, the more stubborn about things we get!
I does seem like most people "in the scene" are 20 somethings with pink hair, so I think that brings a sort of stigma. Nothing against them, just saying a lot of people judge something based on who is involved.

You will find a ton of baby boomers on the ECF. Most of the innovative builds and methods come from people our age, and some from even older. I am also 57 and have been vaping for about 9 months, started with a cig-a-like and now use regulated and mechanical mods, heavily into re-buildable atomizers, rba's, and mix my own juice.

Most of the "not being able to" talk comes from the young know it all whipper snappers, that don't realize that if it wasn't for our generation, there would be no cell phones, no on line forums, no vaporizers.

Welcome to the ECF, relax, sit back, take a vape, and you'll fit right in. Vape is the best thing to come into this world since I invented the wheel. lmao. It's all good, no worries,

Vape long and Prosper!!!

When my 67 year old uncle saw me vaping, he asked questions, tried it out, loved it and took to it like a fish to water. I gave him a few things I had lying around to get him started, and I thought we were waiting till he got his social security check for the month to order gear, but when I asked him about it yesterday, he'd already beat me to it. :) He was sold on the concept before he took his first drag.
My 65 year old mother bought a disposable ecig for a long flight to europe. She hated it and won't listen to me when I try to explain the better options. She actively refuses to listen to any of it.
You could change those ages to 37 and 35 and I doubt there would be much difference. Some people embrace change, some people... don't.

At least Granny B gets to take credit for bringing one group,of pink haired hipsters into the fold.

Let's face it the hipsters are ripping off the baby boomers all over the place anyway, when you break it down they are the young pretending to be old. They think they set the trends or buck the trends but they (myself included) are walking the roads already walked.
