Hello all. I have tried to rebuild my first rba (phoenix clone) and i am having difficulty with my ohms.

I think my problem is i have 30 awg kanthal. When i purchased the wire i was unaware of how the gauge of the wire effected your final ohms. Well first coil set me at .6 ohm (no good for my vamo). Next put me at .7 ohm. After that i did a little reading and am under the assumption that a longer wire will produce more resistance leading to a higher ohm.

My 2 prior coils were wrapped at 4 loops, then 5. On my next attempt i did a 10 loop coil (about all i could fit between the posts). Popped the atty in mr. Vamo and it read 1.5 ohms

Finally my questions.

1. I have never heard of anyone doing as many as 10 loops on their coil. Is this harmful to the mod or dangerous?

2. While vaping i check my ohms from time to time. it usually reads 1.5-1.6 ohm. But it has jumped to 1.9 a couple times. Any ideas why this is happening?

3. Should i just go ahead and order some 32 or 34 awg kanthal and not mess with the 30 awg I have?

Thanks in advance to any insight. I love this forum and its full of wonderful tips and info.

30awg is good. Its very versatile.

10 wraps or 2 are not different in terms of being dangerous or harmful.

Varying resistance points to a number of things. A normal deviation is around 0.2 ohm. More than 1 ohm almost always means bad contact. 0.4 ohm like your case is probably fine, unless you notice some drop in performance.
