I had ordered some 28awg as per usual, it's been my gauge of choice for over a year.. The vendor called me up saying they were out and talked me into buying a spool of 26awg instead. Of course I quickly realized that I can't make 1.5ohm coils for my kayfuns with this stuff, it's like 15 wraps and it takes forever to heat up that much metal..

So Question is, What is the most efficient resistance for a single 26awg coil, what resistance would approximate a 1.5ohm microcoil using 28awg..

I could experiment I know but I wouldn't mind some input.

Are you using a variable voltage/wattage device? If so, cranking up the power a bit will heat that 15 wrap coil up much faster :)

Basically it all comes down to the battery or mod that you're using to fire your Kayfun. I don't believe there is a most efficient resistance for a particular wire gauge, per se. I've run 26 gauge at 1.2 ohms in a Kayfun on a Vamo V5 with great results. Right now I'm using dual 26 gauge microcoils in an Orchid on a mech mod at .41 ohms, also enjoying great results.

I think 26g is a good versatile all around wire to have on hand

Agreed 100%. Thick enough to go low sub-ohm, but also fine to use in a higher resistance setup. I do prefer 28 ga in Kayfuns, and 22 ga in RDAs...but if all you have is 26 ga it's easy enough to make something work, and work well.

Hi there, Just got back to this thread.

I use regulated, not much of a fan of direct battery because I like a consistent vape and a little more safety.

Kick2 in Mechs,
DNA20 Mods.
DNA30 Mods.

That's how I roll.. :p

Umm.. I think I use a 3/64s? drill bit (I forget, i've been using the same ones for so long that I don't bother to know what size it is, I just know it's 'the one' lol.) . 8/9 wraps with 28awg gives me about 1.5ohms normally and it fits centered on the Kayfun deck prefectly.

I used to make larger coils when I first started with Kayfuns. Do larger diameter microcoils heat up faster than smaller? Again, I guess I could just experiment but I've been doing the same thing for a year or so now that I've just never bothered experimenting anymore.

It would help if you looked up the metric equivalent and stated that too.

As others have mentioned; you can use a different diameter former to vary the length of wire used as well as changing the number of turns.

The wire I ordered turned out to have higher resistivity than I was expecting - I have to twist 2 strands together to get the resistance down to a sensible value.
