Hi everyone, I was wondering if any of you purchased an e-cigarette without considering giving up the regular smokes?

Its funny I never considered that I would give up smoking after 30 years but after trying the Ego last week at a freinds place I started doing some research. The idea has actually crossed my mind for the first time after reading these forums.

I think I will start with substituting the real thing for some vaping and see how it goes. Wish me luck my starter kit should arrive this week.

Sagg,

That's how most people start. At the core of all of the tons of information found here is the idea that PVs (personal vaporizers or E-cigs) provide nicotine and the habitual smoking routines/feeling without all of the tars and 4000 carcinogens in analogs.

The majority of people start out vaping only when they can stand to be without an analog and then as months progress they start to move towards more vaping and less analogs.

Ultimately, the timing on that transition is up to you... but it seems that many people here started the way you are thinking and then made the switch to little to no analogs. It is important to remember that even if vaping only means you are smoking 5 - 10 less analogs a day...you are doing yourself a favor and improving your health.

Some are like me and are ready to dive in head-first and hope to give up analogs all together..but even with this mindset it is very likely that I will probably succumb to the temptation of an analog at some point here..

Hope that helps...

Welcome to the forum and of course, good luck! I purchased my first kit because I was just curious. After the first day I cut down to 3 cigs a day. Nearly 2 years of vaping later, l I have stayed cut down from 1 1/2 packs a day to from 2-6 cigs a day depending on the stress level. (teenagers!) There are many of us here that still smoke some real cigs but man, that's still a big improvement! I think if I had gone into it with the thought of quitting, I would have been able to. Since I didn't, I just substituted most of my cigs for vaping. I prefer vaping, I'm not sure why I still smoke as it tastes nasty and I ususally vape right after having a cig just to get the taste out of my mouth!

I'm an "accidental quitter." I took up vaping as a way to get around the "no indoor smoking" clause of our lease and I hated going outside to smoke when the weather was bad. I went through a couple of crappy e-cig kits and bought a Riva after I discovered this forum. The day I got it was the day I quit. I didn't plan on it, but it happened. I'll be four months smoke free tomorrow and I haven't looked back!

I got an e-cig to use as a temporary substitute for smoking during a long plane flight and a week's visit with non-smoking relatives. I never intended to quit smoking! I got a 510 kit a month in advance of the trip just to make sure it would work and 5 days after it arrived I stopped smoking. By the time I got on the plane, I felt like a non-smoker and it's been five months since then.

I actually think it's a good idea not to put any pressure on yourself, not to think about quitting anything. Instead, think about the fact that you're starting something different and better. Don't beat yourself up if you feel the urge for a real cigarette; just go ahead and light one up. After a couple of days of vaping, that old cig will taste like ashes and you'll stub it out after a puff or two. Repeat as necessary to remind yourself that vaping is sooooo much better.

LOL !! I was never going to quit smoking ! I loved smoking !! Smoked since I was 14. I bought a 510 kit as a whim just to play with ! Started liking the flavor of the juice better than my cigarettes! Less than a week later, I smoked my last cig !!! Was kinda a no brainer that being less harmful and tasted better.......well. the 19th will be 10 months ago !

I actually put an immense amount of pressure on myself to switch to vaping. I told myself that I was going to try it out, I got a blu, and if I didn't like it I was going to seriously attempt to quit. I loved the blu for the first ten days I had it until it stopped working right and relapsed until I got a 510 two weeks later. I only smoke analogs every once in a while when I'm drinking with friends which I have no problem with whatsoever. I loved being a smoker for a few years but I ended up being disgusted with myself after a while. Choking and coughing up my lungs while lighting another cig, truly disgusting.

After smoking for 10 years, I have not had a cigarette since September 2009, I quit cold turkey! However recently, I have been indulging in some Hooka Pipes and an "other" form of smoke-able that is often laced with Tobacco. I felt as if I was starting to slip down a slope of overindulgence with my pipe, so I decided to look for an alternative and thats when I found ECF. And boy was my mind blown! I decided to get into the world of PVs just because I'm a gadget geek, I have built many of the best watercooled PCs around! I purchased my very first eGo from Jack at HappyVaper just before Christmas this year! Hope to contribute to this community here, somehow;...

you will find a LOT of "accidental quitters" here. I ordered 510 kits for me and my wife wanting to save on a $15.00/day bad habbit but love "smoking" so wasnt too optomistic. Here I am almost 3 months later and haven't bought a pack of smokies since. I have upgraded to EGOs for the battery life and more consistent vape, but am now content with what I have. Many people get into Mods and DIY and of course I am curious and might try someday but I don't NEED anything more than what I have.

I do have a Lathe/milling machine in the basement so if I have some spare time I might venture into trying to make my own 3.7v mod.

The reason I started vaping was with the hope I would cut down on analogs. I was smoking 1 pack + a day. I figured if I had a e-cig I would smoke less, meaning spend less.... WELL, what do ya know, I haven't bought a pack of cigarettes since I started (4 weeks ago)

I've bummed a cig off my roommate a few times and I always end up taking a few puff them putting it out, saving it for later. There have been days where I went analog free, not even taking a hit off my roommates cig, but I find if my roommate and I are drinking I ask to hit his cig lol.

Let's just say this, I'm 100% sure if I lived alone I wouldn't have smoked any analogs.

I got my first 510 kit because NYS was increasing the tax on a pack to $4.25, bringing the total for one pack to about $10. I thought I would 'stretch out' the expensive cigarettes with vaping, and ended up quitting them all together the first week I got the 510. Ended up selling the 2+ cartons of cigs I had bought. Happy accident, indeed. Now, I think I even have broken even on spending.

it was purely mind over matter for me...and a bucket worth of e-juice to try and find the taste that will make me stick with the e-stick. i did occasionally go for the analogs at first, but it was cut down to 2 sticks a day and if i feel the need or the urge to go analog, i just concentrate on the "this is healthier and its the same" hymn on my head lol. but to be honest..it really is the better way to go. it just takes a bit to get you off the analogs. get some with at least 18mg nic to start you off with not much withdrawal. common mistake first timers do is get a zero nic and find themselves unable to sleep looking for analogs.i started with 24mg for a couple of days and moved to 18 and 12mg

I started vaping about 2 months ago to get around the no smoking at work, going outside everywhere in the cold and storms, then I found myself (sometimes a 2 ppd smoker) smoking on average 3 per day. Wow! I find that when I do light up they aren't as satisfying as they used to be, taste nasty also. I never planned to quit smoking, I loved smoking, but I seriously see myself as being smoke free very soon. I just got a bunch of flavored juices in (always thought this was just weird, different flavors?) and the ones I've tried are amazing. It makes this "vaping" so much more fun! Vape on everyone!!!

I wasn't planning to quit smoking either. A friend showed me his, and I thought it's probably a scam..but what the heck, I'll try it. I ordered a kr808 starter kit. I had no expectations and no pressure. Over the course of 6 weeks, the number of cigs that i wanted declined to zero. My last cig was 13 months ago.
