Any tips on how to kick the cigarette habit with vaping? Been trying for a bit but for whatever reason it still doesn't beat the feeling of a cigarette for me. I also want to try to quit around other smokers so it's easier to resist once I finally quit.

I kept a tally of how many I smoked each day, and the next day, would try to beat that, or at least not go higher. The more I vaped, the better I liked it, and the less I liked cigarettes. When I was down to 5 a day, they began to taste so dreadful I couldn't imagine why I was still bothering with them, and the last week, each day I went lower; the last 3 days, I only smoked 1 for each of those days, and when I finally figured out the proper way to inhale vapor (sloooooooooooowly with a lot of nose exhale), that morning, I never felt a need to go have a smoke -- that was my first smoke-free day. The whole process took less than a month.

Good luck!! :thumb:

It would be easier to help if we knew more. What devices are you using? what mg of nic? What exactly do you feel you aren't getting, is it intense cravings, more the physical act, more psychological etc? These are all factors. For me, I had quit smoking as soon as I started vaping, but it was very difficult. Looking back I should have taken it slower. For 8 months I struggled a lot with cravings, finally went from 18 to 24 mgs of nic and the cravings went away. I had tried 24mg nic when I first started vaping, and found that the juice had a real peppery taste and I didn't like it, so went down to 18. finally tried the 24 from another company and I could vape that just fine. Problem solved.

I still haven't quite kicked the cig habit I still have to have a real one in the morning. When I started vaping I started with 12mg nic but it wasn't enough to get me to cut down. Went to 18mg got closer, when I went to 24mg that was the magic number. I was at a pack or pack and 1/2 a day not quite sure since I rolled my own smokes and didn't keep track. Down to a pack a week at most and still going down. So get the highest nic content that will stop your cravings and find a flavor of ejuice you can use all day without getting sick of it. In the beginning for me it was a tobacco flavor now I have branched out to more of the fruity flavors.

Good luck it will happen but it will take some time so don't get discouraged.

I agree with Debadoo, give us more information about your situation.

Keep in mind also that with smoking you're burning vegetation and inhaling the smoke. With vaping you're vaporizing PG, VG, flavorings and nicotine and inhaling the vapor. Because of this difference vaping will not ever be the same as smoking. Vaping is however the closest thing I know of to smoking and it helped me a lot when I quit smoking.

Best of luck to ya trying to kick the habit. Once you find the rig that works and delivers a ton of flavor you may go all the way and put down the tobacco for good. Not to mention your smoker friends that are going to see the clouds you make and say.....DDAAAMMMNN! Quitting is a process and takes a few tries for most people. There's a few things you have to look forward to if you can switch over to the vapor. You'll feel better, live longer, and best of all you won't smell like an ashtray anymore.... There's plenty of support here. You can do it!

Unfortunately converting from cigarettes to vaping isn't a cakewalk for all of us. Took me about five and a half months of frustration, cursing and crying. Would had have been a lot easier if I'd found ECF. My story is similar to Debadoo's. I finally went up to 24mg, quite the overdose for me but it's what I needed to get over that "hump" of quitting and detoxing from cigarettes. After a month it became clear that 24mg was too much and went down to 16/18mg with no trouble. Keep track of how many days I hadn't smoked on a calendar and when the urge hit, it kept me on the straight and narrow because I didn't want to break "the streak." Once I found ECF I got a banner like one of these http://www.ecigalternative.com/quit-counter/quit-smoking-banner.php and the number were a bit of a shock. Plug your numbers into that and see what comes up for a week, month year. It's an eyeopener.

Give us the information Deb asked for so the advice you're given can be tailored to your specific needs. It's amazing how different we all are, not to mention how different the various equipment are. Good luck.

Jup......not wanting to reset that banner was a big incentive!! Sometimes it was that extra little push that was needed.

If you are expecting it to be just like smoking. . . you are in for a disappointment. If you are expecting it to be a new healthier alternative to smoking, vaping can be all that you need. I did both for a while and started cutting down on cigarettes til it got to the point where I just wanted vaping. That simple. That easy. I don't know how much you smoked but it may be that you need a higher nic juice to reduce the urges. Or it could be that you just are not quite ready to let go of cigarettes. Nothing wrong with that at all. Just something you have to decide for yourself. Have you tried a juice with WTA? I have read where that helped many that sounded like they were in the same situation as you. Just a thought. I hope some of the suggestions help here. This really is like a family and we care about you.

Bottom line is you REALLY NEED to WANT to quit smoking. Stop buying cigarettes. Every time you think about having a real cigarette VAPE, VAPE, VAPE.

But all of that won't work IF "YOU" don't really want to quit.

For me "I" really really really wanted to quit smoking. I started with Blu-Cig which IMO are the worst E-Cigs on the market. I went from smoking 10 packs every 8-10 days to smoking 1 pack a week. That went on for 2 weeks then I stopped buying cigarettes and bummed from people around me. I also changed from the Blu-Cigs to Halo G6 E-Cigarettes which were much better. Bumming went on for another 2 weeks and then I said to myself "I have smoked my last cigarette". Haven't had one in 9 months. I've also cut my nicotine level down to around 1 to 2 mg's in that period of time. Next step is to get away from the hand to mouth action.

But I REALLY REALLY REALLY wanted to quit. I was sick of smoking and everything that went with it.

Best of luck to you. Hope you can quit.

^^ totally agree with Shootist. I was FINALLY READY to quit. Stopped at a kiosk to get info on Vapes, bought a Joyetech 510 T XL and some Black Cherry 70/30 12 mg juice and I have not had or craved analogs since. I did upgrade to a Nautilis mini ,Aspire CF VV Batt 1000mAh X 2 but I still like my 510 T XL for work.

I wish you the best BaronMan in your path to quitting analogs.

From the day I stated vaping my cigs declined dramatically, from 25 to 4. I decided to leave it at that, smoke if I wanted to, and focus on learning how to vape. Learning how had some challenges. I gyrated up and down trying to figure out the right nic level, which changed as I got better at vaping. The liquids made me queasy. That went away after 3 weeks. To be distracted from cigarettes I needed to over medicate the nic. That took time to get used to. At 6 weeks I noticed I was about to run out of cigarettes. I let that happen. My experience is nicotine is 80% of the craving. There's other stuff that 4 cigs a day seems to satisfy but I didn't buy any more cigs after 6 weeks. I felt cravings but only 20% of normal which I could resist. For the next two weeks I felt a gentle tug to smoke but never bought more. After 6 weeks of zero cigs I smoked one intentionally on Christmas day to impress my brother that I'd lost interest. It tasted bad, I didn't want another. (I started him vaping that day, he's still at it and smoking 4 per day). A couple weeks ago I found some cigarettes in the house and decided to smoke one. It tasted awful. I threw the rest away.

Quitting is not THAT tough unless you figure relapse is inevitable. Once I got past the last 20% of craving (2 weeks) and my palete got accustomed to vaping flavors (1 months of zero cigs) a cigarette tasted awful and made me feel bad. At that point relapse is very unlikely. Vaping is now more enjoyable than smoking. That's the place you need to get to.

Ah! The age old question we all faced. And we are all different with varying stories, failures, and success. So I won't bore you with mine.

Don't put the pressure on yourself. Find the gear and juice you really like so you look forward to and embrace that next vape. Don't dwell on the process and you will be surprised when you have that realization that by golly, you haven't even thought about having a smoke since whatever o'clock, this morning, yesterday, or last week.

Good luck and just keep on vapin' and it will happen. :vapor:

I agree everyone's journey is different. Try watching uutube videos on vaping set ups and reading juice reviews on best flavours and suppliers. Good luck we are all here if you have more specific questions.

For those having trouble dispensing with that first smoke of the day -- I had the exact same problem, which is why for the last 3 days I smoked, I only had one each day, that first one in the morning. When I finally figured out how to inhale it correctly, the problem disappeared. This is a quote from my own website (Angry Vaper - Getting Started

Smokers typically take fairly short, hard pulls, and inhale swiftly and to some depth in the lungs; if you try to vape this way, you will not get much nicotine, it may irritate your throat and/or lungs, it may cause your device to "gurgle," and the whole exercise will be ineffective and unsatisfying, if not downright unpleasant.

The difference is because nicotine in smoke is best absorbed in the lungs, and vaporized nicotine is best absorbed in the soft tissues of the mouth, throat, sinus cavity, and nose. It has to do with molecule size...

The best way to minimize this difference is to inhale the vapor more slowly: a long, slow pull -- which works best with most devices anyway -- rather than a quick powerful drag, and allowing the vapor to hang around in the mouth and throat before inhaling (or even instead of inhaling), then slowly exhaling through the nose -- a technique very similar to that of smoking a pipe or cigar, and as with a pipe or cigar, this method will also provide the best and most intense flavor, as well as providing you with the maximum amount of nicotine.

There is also good info about this here: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/ecf-library/337017-inhalation-technique-e-cigarette.html

I know it seems "silly," and most smokers are all "I think I know how to inhale, been doing it for years," but this modified technique really is the best way to get the MOST from an e-cig.

Yes, #1 would be that you are mentally committed to quitting smoking. Just like Mr. Miagi said.

"Karate yes, Karate No, Karate 'Guess So' get squished like grape"

It was much easier for me because no one I live with smoked other than me, and I tried not to do it around them. There is a designated smoking area at work, and I have avoided that area since I made the switch. The first few months, and probably to this day, cigarettes smell good to me and make me want one.

I see that you're trying to quit around other smokers, but that's going to make it even harder. Quit first, then you can test yourself if you really want to. I keep my cigarettes buried in my trunk so they're not easy to get to.

It's okay to have a drink, but don't get to the point where you are drunk. When the I don't give a crap mentality comes in, you'll cave. I actually cave once in a while too.

If you get a craving, just vape until you don't want one anymore. In the beginning, I had to vape to the point where I got a nicotine buzz before my craving went away.

Remember, the average cigarette craving only lasts 3 minutes. It won't last forever if you can wait it out.

Get a juice that you really like and gives you that throat hit you need. Don't drop down in nic level too fast. I ended up smoking a few when I did. I vape 12mg when most of the people I know vape 6mg. The difference..... I don't smoke and vape like they do, I just vape.

Learn to rebuild your coils. Kanger single coils are extremely easy to rebuild, that's why Kanger is moving towards dual coil standard to get some of that revenue back. The better wicking gives you better vapor, flavor, and throat hit.

Each individual is different. My main reason was the price of the D**N things. Over a six week period I slowly weaned myself off the cigarettes until I finally quit. It's been almost 3 months without a cigarette and I'm down to 6mg juice from 18mg :). Remember good things come to those who wait. Quitting is a marathon, not a sprint. Good luck and happy vaping.

A word about WTA:

My wife and I were to the point of chain vaping until we were dizzy. We couldn't stop the withdrawal symptoms even though we were slightly overdosing on nicotine.

We figured there was something else we were addicted to; it turns out we were right. So we searched the 'net and found that others had the same problem, but they had already figured out a solution.

That solution was WTA.

About 90% of the people who switch to an ecig can quit with it. Us other 10% needed the extra alkaloids in WTA to help us for a while.

There are many threads on the forum about WTA. Use it as a last resort, because it *DOES* supply additional *ADDICTIVE* chemicals. Don't use it unless you need it.

Some company names are: Aroma E-juice, Mother's Milk WTA, and Wholecig.

My wife and I vape WTA first thing in the morning, then change to a different topper with regular ejuice for the rest of the day. And now, after a couple of months, we vape much less WTA and much less regular juice than before.

But most importantly, we don't smoke.

Keep WTA in mind if all else fails. I'll be happy to talk more with you if you like.

Hope this helps!
-Johntodd

PS Pay no attention to my banner. I had to reset it because I got drunk at a party and smoked a stinky. My bad. Seems that alcohol may impair judgement. :D

+1,000,000 on the WTA, but I agree, it's really best to see if you need that, because it will complicate the entire withdrawal-from-cigarettes process (and it's ridiculously expensive).

I was using it as 10% of my ejuice (for everything I vape, all day long) for about 5 months; at the first of January, I began a slow withdrawal, and this month I'm only using it as 9% of my juice. No problems whatever, so at the end of this month I'll mix up some of all the juice I vape daily at 8%, and so on, each month, till I'm finally free of it.

Given my druthers and a SANE gov't, I might keep using WTA indefinitely, but I'm concerned it might not be available indefinitely, hence my voluntary slow withdrawal from it. I'd far rather wean myself off it slowly, than one day discover I can no longer get it, but still be in a position of NEEDING it.
