My wife solved a family mystery today. Her mother died a few years ago, wife's brother took a bunch of her stuff. That included a Purple Heart belonging to mother's father. He was badly wounded in WW1 and spent a year in hospital. Brother wanted to set up some kind of memorial to him including the medal. Turned out it wasn't his medal after all. My wife spent weeks tracking down what had happened. It belonged to a distant cousin of her mother called Charles who was wounded in WW2 and died soon after. Nobody in wife's side of the family had ever met him. For some reason Mother had inherited the medal from her father and assumed it was his.

They located some living members of Charles family so they can return it.

Anyway the wife figured out her grandfather was never given a Purple Heart at the time but was still entitled to it even after his death. She figured out the procedure they have to follow to get it and located all the documentation required, so her brother can set up his memorial. Amazing what you can find on the internet.

My wife has been complaining about our washing machine leaving balls on some of her clothes and I told her before to pick a new one but she hasn’t. The one we have isn’t very old but I’m sick of the complaints so I asked her if she wanted to go look for a new one. Nope. I’m ready to tell her that she can’t complain about the since she won’t go pick one.
Maybe it's the detergent, not the machine?
