Speaking of temperatures - we are pretty lucky in the US. Most homes or apartments have either central ac or window ones. Most of Europe and the UK don’t have ANY air conditioner. The news said something like only about 1% had air conditioning. People are just dropping dead from heat exhaustion in their homes.
Just horrible. Looks like the whole world is on fire right now.
About 10 years ago I saw TV news from London showing the first shop selling window A/C units. They cost 1000 pounds, maybe $1300. They didn't sell many the first day. They explained how they worked to one woman, she said, but if it blows cold air into the room doesn't that mean the pressure goes up inside. They are more common now though. My sister has several in her house.
In the north of england when I was growing up there were just a handful of days each summer when the temp got up into the 80's. Now it's regularly in the high 90's there. There were a few farms experimenting with grapes when I came to the US 30 years ago. Now grapes and wine production are a major industry. The rise in temperature has happened much faster in Europe than in the US. Guess that's why there are still so many climate change doubters over here. Maybe that will start to change now.
