Howdy random folks. Work was easy today, got off at noon. I work again tomorrow. I came home, had some lunch, called DD, then took a nap. No rain today, but it's threatening to now. I'm hearing a bit of thunder and there's thunderstorms in the guess for this evening. However the rain that they've kept promising gets pushed back. Originally it was supposed to rain all weekend, and we only had a little bit on Friday. Now it's guessed to rain all next week. At least the temperatures are cooler, only 90⁰ for a high today.
Howdy Terri. :) Glad you had an easy day.

That sounds cool. Here they have a regular grill and a smoker. Heather also has a regular grill and a smoker.
I had a barrel shaped smoker before I got this one. It’s way less work to smoke on. Just set the temperature and fill the hopper with wood pellets. Mine has WiFi also so I can adjust the temperature and set a desired meat temperature for the two temperature probes from my phone. No more going out to add wood or charcoal every hour like before. That and it’s way cheaper to run. The bag of pellets last forever for me since I don’t cook that often.

Good morning. My wife keeps her phone on her nightstand and this morning it woke me ringing. She answered it and her friend had somehow but dialed her. It’s happened before multiple times. I just can’t figure out how that happens with an iPhone.

I have a question: For my last few mixes I tried using cap sweetener, if the recipe called for sweetener. I don't really like it in my mixes, all I taste is sweet, I used to use marshmallow in place of sweetener, for my taste that was better.
Now for my question, if a recipe calls for sweetener, do you just leave it out or substitute with something else?
Side note: I mix for a few other people and they like the sweetener in their mixes, so this is a matter of my taste.

I don't use sweetener at all.

    Morning, mixers.

The guessers persist in saying we'll cool off today, but now have a couple more days in the 80s later this week...

I tend to use ethyl maltol for the few times I want sweetener.

Since I still use commercial juice, I don't mind using a little bit of sweetener, usually 0.25 or 0.50 percent.
I don't use it in every mix, but often with fruits to see if it might brighten them up or help them "pop" a bit.

For your own mixes, I'd say try a tester without the sweetener to see if you really feel something is missing without it. If so, maybe add in a bit of the marshmallow as you mentioned.

I saved a post from reddit that talked about flavorings used as additives to help achieve a desired effect and although it was mainly focused on adding "juiciness", the first reply touches on a few flavors that might help add sweetness or thickness,

There are probably many more flavors now that might fit those roles as that post is a bit older and so not up to date with newer flavorings.

Thank you, that's a great idea, something my dumb azz never thought of.
Something that might be worth a try for bakery type mixes could be to use a little Cap Sugar Cookie in lieu of sweetener. Some folks find Sugar Cookie to be a pretty sweet flavor.
