It's rayon, I know it is.

I know it is rayon I meant I didn't know why it had an off white look to it.

The rayon they sell for oil lamp wicks has that same off white look to it. I know it doesn't mean their is anything wrong with it but when you can buy a gazillion feet of pure white and meant for use on human skin why fool around with something with an unknown purity.

Not bad if you are ordering something already, but by itself it is $2.75 shipping. I have seen on ebay 12 feet for $4.99 free freight, so $2.24 more for 11 feet more. But still, if you are ordering from them anyway, looks like a Great deal.

Still haven't seen anyone that beats Anasa Vapes price I posted earlier, it's 1.99 for 10ft of the stuff with free shipping. I wish I would have found it sooner cuz I don't really need the 500 ft I have from Sally's... At least I have enough to give to some of my fellow Vapers in the neighborhood [emoji3]

If memory serves, the rayon I've hauled out of my old Zippos, besides having been bathed in lighter fluid, was pretty coarse-grade stuff. I doubt if even virgin Zippo filler would be suitable.

I also remember an additional pad in them that was more like piece of felt (I think it was Alpaca felt) that was put in before the rayon.

Adds that bit of 'je ne sais quoi', though... :p

mnealtx, "je ne sais quoi", really! This is one of the few threads I have followed that continually sends me to the dictionary.

Okay after some failed attempt to search for the quality of the rayon from Zippo and pure curiosity i have boiled it and dried it then tried to wick it, it's actually tastes good no difference from the rayon i bought.
For the reccord, i never filled this particular Zippo that i took the rayon from and it's not filled from the factory
here's some picture of the pre-boiled zippo rayon

I believe zippos have a small bit of machine oil on the lighter insert when new. Not like we haven't all vaped a small bit of machine oil though.

I stretch it initially because it evens the fibers if there's any thicker spots. I usually do it mounted on my mod but the camera angle would be off for the setup I used. So I had to try to hold the base. But I was holding the other end to pull against stretching it down to pull through.

Yeah half the video is just priming it. Kinda shows how fast it is to wick.
Just quoting to be sure: is this the right video, the one showing how to do it correctly? Thanks. :)

This is my AGA-T; 30 GA;ID 2.5 mm; 1.8 Ohms @ 10 watts; four tanks of juice the first tank was HHV Legend which is a NET the other three were clear MntBaker and 1 tank of DIY juices.
The little black specs are splatter from the coil. It doesn't really show but there is a slight buildup of crud on the coil mostly on the side closest to the center post or down stream side of the air flow but nothing like when I was using Silica. I don't normally use this tank except for testing stuff because it is very simple to setup. When I re-wick I will post what it looks like under the coil.
PS - the wick does show that Jelly look that I tried to describe previously. Cotton doesn't do that for me it looks wet but not that clinging wet that Rayon has.
Aga-t genesis genny

Oh yeah jelly for sure!!! My dripper deck is just a very thin layer of fiber strands probably 1/8 of the main wick thickness. It looks like a gel, it's like the fibers are fully encapsulated with juice. Anyone ever use chia seeds. The form a gel when soaked in water.

On to your wick, it looks to chunky at the base while the top looks fine . This is probably causing your gunking. Go very light into the tank. Leave a gap around the wick hole if you can. Rayon will attract and hold the juice in a film to keep it from leaking. The wick in the tank looks too heavy too. Try it next time with much less in the tank than in the coil, try to do the coil and deck before assembly. The assemble and mount the coil.
