SlickWilly,

You did notice that the additives were in the small print at the very bottom of the add. Actually I was very surprised to see a chemical additive to what was being hyped as medical grade rayon. When I see "Medical Grade" I tend to assume they are claiming PURE and additive free.

I read one or two post that claimed one brand of "Med Grade" rayon had a bitter taste. It may well have been the stuff with Aloe in it. I don't think Aloe would be harmful but than I have never heard anyone claim they just loved the taste of it either. ;)

Actually I do like a good high quality organic aloe juice in small amounts. :)

But yeah they're saying the rayon is medical grade with aloe added. Wouldn't be a good vape though! Maybe that's the issue with the other kind people said had a bad taste. But who know could be user error. I haven't looked at that other place yet.

However I have found 5 other sources of potentially good rayon recently. None have been tested yet.

Found this on a site.

“Rayon is the preferred choice for people looking for a solution that is more eco-friendly from start to finish in the supply chain,” insisted Norman, who said it takes anywhere from 7,000 to 29,000 metric tons of water to produce cotton compared to just 500 metric tons to produce the same amount of rayon. - See more at: Beyond Softness - HAPPI - Household and Personal Products Industry

that is what's called greenwashing. while cotton is certainly resource intensive, marketing rayon as an "eco-friendly" product is just dishonest.

nasca,

Just curious why you think calling rayon "eco-friendly" is dishonest?

well, read up on the manufacturing required to produce rayon and all the industrial waste afterwards. or rather, there's alot of crap that goes into its production and alot of crap that comes out of it and alot of energy usage throughout the entire process. rayon might be a mighty fine wick, but it's not "eco-friendly."

How Rayon is Made
Byproducts

As one of the industry's major problems, the chemical by-products of rayon have received much attention in these environmentally conscious times. The most popular method of production, the viscose method, generates undesirable water and air emissions. Of particular concern is the emission of zinc and hydrogen sulfide.

At present, producers are trying a number of techniques to reduce pollution. Some of the techniques being used are the recovery of zinc by ion-exchange, crystallization, and the use of a more purified cellulose. Also, the use of absorption and chemical scrubbing is proving to be helpful in reducing undesirable emissions of gas.

OK I surrender... I have just read more about rayon manufacturing than I ever wanted to know.

@nasca, I swear I read someplace that they had refined the rayon manufacturing process into a closed loop process reusing most if not all of the chemicals involved. But as my luck would have it I can't find that article again to save my soul.

One problem with looking up information about Rayon is it has been around for almost a hundred years and there is just a gazillion articles to paw thru. So out of a lack of will to research it anymore I will surrender any concepts I had about Rayon being a "Green Product"

In fact I am so tired of looking up rayon I am just going to sit back and enjoy vaping with my not so "Green" but inexpensive Rayon. ;)

I'm pretty certain JeremyR posted about the better, cleaner manufacturing process. Try searching for posts by him in this thread and tencel. I believe that term gets applied to rayon manufactured by the newer greener method.

On topic pro forma portion of post. Going on a month with my rayon Fogger V4 build, at least one tank a day on average, still tastes great, no sign of diminished taste, vapor or throat hit.

Edit: corrected name from tercel to tencel

Living in a box of CelluCotton
For those who want to sample the CelluCotton, Vices E-Cigs is giving away 12" with any order, free. Drusilla has some great prices over there, pick yourself up a cheap atty or some juice. I am in no way affiliated with Vices, outside of being a customer. Just think it's cool of them to do, a vendor who is truly out there to help people get off the analogs and into vaping.
