Suspect,

This throat thing has come up in the past middle and every now and then.

It may be because of the Rayon BUT it is definitely not the Rayon causing it. !!! you are just getting MORE VAPOR flavoring, nicotine and what ever else your juice vendors has added.

All you have to do is slow down on your vaping a little until you become accustomed to it and if that doesn't work modify you juice. I never suggest reducing Nic% that is up to you but the rayon will feed PG to you at a much higher rate and PG will make you thirsty and give you a scratchy throat from being desiccated by the PG...

If you think it is the ray try this thought experiment. Puff on rayon all day and see how much rayon has disappeared probably none. Now remember back when you smoked a cig and how much of the tobacco and paper was gone at the end of the day probably all of it.

Now.... pause for dramatic effect.... ready for it... OK... her it comes. Rayon is paper they are both cellulous products. While vaping you do not consume any rayon unless you vape dry wicks. With a cigarette you inhale all the paper and tobacco of every cigarette.

Logical conclusion your throat scratch it too much e-juice [Full Stop]

suspectK, I know you have been around vaping a long time but Rayon is not the cause of any throat irritation it is whatever the Rayon is feeding to you at a rate your not accustom to.

My :2c: rant is over.
Just a comment, I had that itchy-scratch for a day or two on rayon and had to do 2 things:

Drop the nic and up the vg. Problem solved.

Hmmm...this place Tencel Top-TENCEL® says sold out but I was able to add it to my cart. It doesn't say how much you get for $2.50 though but enough for a test I'm sure.

Is that also called ramie? my brother sent me some but haven't tried it yet :) I put an order in for the 2nd link you put and it went thru :)

I have a laptop computer on a stand

Gee AMD, I thought I was scared of teenage girls behind the wheel of a Volkswagen while texting. Now I have to worry about an "18 Wheeler" with a laptop, GPS, Cell Phone and a Mod in one hand.

I'll bet the next time I pass a big rig on one of these desert two lane roads I'll have to pull over to change my pants.

I don't really know. I've read in this thread about ramie and about tencel so I thought they were different types of rayon or different processing of rayon. Maybe somebody else will chime in.

I consider them part of the experience... sorta like kanthal bombs when coiling

etherealink,

You only have to dry fire rayon one before you learn to prime the rayon before putting on your Mod. The time I dry fired mine I was completely amazed at how fast a hunk of rayon can disappear. There was absolutely nothing left but a tiny bit of soot.

If you ever light a pillow size pile of Rayon I am sure your bomb analogy would be right on.

I wish the answer was that simple ... however increased nic from Rayon does not seem to be the answer (18mg does not hurt my throat with Japanese Cotton, so I doubt 12mg nic on Rayon is the nic causing it).

For me, it seems to be something connected to the Rayon ... and it's not like any of us actually know for sure.

Lol, just wait till you are what we call the "skinny road" on one of our runs out here.

No marks on the road and no shoulders, small enough that drivers can almost high 5 as they pass each other... swapping mirrors is very common

I was referring to stepping on a wayward clipping of kanthal with bare feet, lol.

My poor Husky has gotten some in her paws a time or two and was very upset until I pulled it out [emoji22]

Anyways, I always pulse dry and then recheck the resistance on a rewick. Just stop when the smoke starts and you're good (1-2secs).

Sitting down, facing forward.
Terry, if you want some more, I'll drop it in the mail to your current address. When I say "coarser" to me the fibers, themselves, are slightly bigger and it doesn't "shed" as much as Graham. I had a hard time getting an effective needle that held it's shape long enough to thread through the coil, it seems a little "springier", too. I may give it another try, I've got about a ten year supply as it is right now.

"skinny road" - I think I'll pass on those and we do have a few of them out here in the wilderness.

On the wire snipings I have been known to get down on the floor with a flashlight looking for one that went astray. I have a Cat (my best friend) and there is only one thing she likes better than catnip and that is anything shinny. I am not as worried about her getting it in her foot but she has a bad habit of having to taste anything she plays with. I can only imagine what would happen if she swallowed a one inch piece of 30 Ga. She would probably be better off swallowing a straight pin at least that would eventually dissolve but Kanthal doesn't break down very easily nor is it magnetic enough for a Vet to go fishing with a magnet.

Darn I wish you hadn't brought up this subject now I am going to be even more paranoid about any little piece getting away from me.

Ah thanks but I have plenty. :) Yes, the fibers may be a bit bigger. I didn't compare and I love that it doesn't "shed" as much. I've got as much rayon fuzz on my carpet as cat hair and that's a lot! :p

Yeah...it's come up..because I'm the only one that really has brought up my sensation from it..and tired of repeating myself on my trials with it.

I'm a scientist... I've tried every ratio, 0-3mg.. every flavor..same itchy feeling...rense and repeat.. I've tried it when humidity was low (60-70%), and on normal days (70-90%)..no dice.

It doesn't make sense to me..but alas..

Probably the only sterile rolled cotton user around that vapes 50 Watts + now...lol.

Edit-but thanks...absolutely 0 particles come off of matter...you're right.

suspectK ... you are not the only one ... I was feeling a stinging sensation also ... however, I forgot to switch one setup back from Rayon (4 were switched back and only one setup had the Rayon still).

The stinging sensation did not improve until I changed that last device from Rayon.

I also want to point out ... the stinging from the Rayon did not start right away from first using it (I was praising it at first) ... it developed over a week and a half, and then it was constantly there.

As soon as I went to Japanese Cotton ... it went away ( I best describe it as a stinging sensation over just a harsh taste).

And even if I vape 24mg ... I do not get that stinging sensation.

While I'm sure you'll get blasted for that last sentence. But if someone talked negative about a Gus product, they're wrong even though they're right. Lol. Edit-i misinterpreted that post.. thought you were talking about using 24 on rayon.

But yeah... I forgot I was heavy into it...the day or so after I took it to my friend's shop for samples, I started getting that itchy feeling.

I know I was loving it the first day or two, but yeah...it started bothering me..then started my experiments.. I didn't have an issue wicking properly...I don't know..that logic just comes naturally to me, I guess-not just with vaping.

Some flavors opened up..others I was questioning on how I was vaping them...I don't remember if I actually noticed an increase in nicotine absorption either...I think I did though.

Hasn't it been proven that cotton, weaved in solid strands, wicks better than rayon? I remember seeing that brought up..I want to say Phil tested it..

Edit- this sensation is almost like dust when I inhale..only at the top of the back of my throat, against rules to make a perfect analogy.
