Not great but you can see how I do it.

This video has no commentary or editing just set up iPhone and recorded.

The notable sounds is when the coil is being wicked you can hear the sqeak and then see how I trim for that Atty.

The coil in the vid is 2mm (5\64) you will need to use 50% MORE rayon than I am using... Your coil is 50% bigger. As you can see your going to have a very thick piece to start with.

Use half the sally strand and that will be close.

Maybe revolver style, parallel, horizontal.....
Ill report back later when im done with rayon wick.

Search results in google for the term - rayon wick

I think I've found the only reason VU is placed above us.

Google will place the faster loading page higher.

The VU site loads faster than ECF

The site VU -
http://....................../threads/rayon-for-wicks-not-a-good-idea.15412/

The google page load speed test

https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/

ECF is 55/61
Vu is 64/62

Interestingly... for me 'rayon wick safe', 'rayon wick dangerous', 'how to rayon wick coil' and 'how to rayon wick AVP' all have this thread at the top :)

Really... just being on the first page is great.

Howdy,
Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year!

I would like some more information on this topic (500+ pages is a lot to go though) on the health impacts of possible dry burn. I can't vape cotton as I'm allergic to it (throat closure and the whole works) vaping anyways. This looks to be a good substitute however I'd like to ensure that its somewhat safe should something happen bad to the build (Dry fire, over fire due to button stick..ect).
Any information would be great, Links to purchase from a know source is rock on, any spare you want to free send is awesome. I'm up for any of those or combination of all 3.

Sitting down, facing forward.
Since a rayon wick is pure cellulose, think about what happens, and is produced, when you burn a piece of paper or wood. They are both made, primarily, of cellulose, and if you smoked, you routinely inhaled the byproducts of burning paper not to mention a ton of other stuff.

The amount of full wick before the trim may need to be increased at higher wattage. Instead of 1/8" go 1/4 inch for example.

I always leave the full wick part about as long as a kanger wick then trim the rest down.

I have seen juice consumption nearly double on a given setup switching to rayon. That increase in juice vaporized makes things happen fast.

A larger diameter coil can help too.

Edit:
I see your using a 3mm coil already! * the hardest part is getting enough rayon in there to remain in contact after a tank. You need A LOT in a 3mm coil..

You are not using enough in the 3mm diameter.

I got the squeeking going as mentioned earlier, but i think i need to get a tad more Rayon in to the coil with double penetration method.

- it very hard to burn the rayon. You will get a coil dry burn before you burn the rayon... So the byproducts of your juice when burned would be the concern.

I took a wet rayon wick that wasn't working great but OK. I fired it at 6v till the coil stated glowing. The juice lit up in flames, let it burn a few sec. Blew it out and did it again. The rayon still wasn't burnt. Would have to be completely dry to burn and you won't be vaping it that long.

Its the same as burning cigarette paper if you burn it.

Good sounds like a plan. Double wick will get you there. Once you taste a little nutty rayon taste on first hit you know you have plenty in there. Key is to get there then you can adjust on futire builds.

If it tastes like that try to cape it out 10 hits see if it fades. If it does you can run it and it should be good for now. If not gone within 10 you may have way too much.

When the density is just right on a build there will be no rayon taste in the begining

Cotton is 90%+ cellulose... I'm not sure what you were allergic to within the cotton... the cellulose, the pectin or the bit of other stuff... but I would be careful using Rayon ONLY because while you are removing the impurities that were found in cotton... you also increased the main ingredient of cotton by ~11%, if you use Rayon for your wick.

Rock Solid Sources are abound... and I'll send you some for free... just PM me your address.

Just saying... Rayon wick makes for the best wick for vaping, IMHO.

Also... if you wonder how long that massive box would last...

I called Graham (who makes CelluCotton). Here's what I discovered.

#44040 = 3.917lbs = 12000ft
#44043 = 3.497lbs = roughly 900ft (give or take)

...all in all, there's enough CelluCotton (Rayon) in all the boxes to last to the end of time. You only need about 3inches (IF THAT) cut off at any given time -- which will give you about 8 fairly sized wicks.

If you use 3 inches at a time, per cut.
3x4 = 12inches. Which is a Foot.
Estimates to 28 wicks per foot.
28x900 = 28,800 wicks (#44043)
28x1200 = 38,400 wicks (#44040)

If you used 2 inches at a time, per cut.
2x6 = 12inches. Which is a Foot
Estimates to 48 wicks per foot.
48x900 = 43,200 wicks (#44043)
28x1200 = 57,600 wicks (#44040)

If you used 1 inch at a time, per cut.
1x12 = 12 inches. Which is a Foot.
Estimate to 96 wicks per foot.
96x900 = 86,400 wicks (#44043)
28x1200 = 115,200 wicks (#44040)

...Folks, that's a hell of a lot of wicking! :toast:

NOTE: My estimates were based on a 5/64 drill bit Coil. If you use a 1/16 Coil, then you'll definitely get more wicks. This is only an estimation.

I couldnt get the double penetration from both ends, so i did double insertion from one end. Got a tad more Rayon fitted in to the coil and stuffed the lower deck as well to hold more juice.
Now i get nice hot vapor hit like a train at 50watts !! Just have to keep dripping every other hit though. At 35watts the vape is very very nice.

Need to figure out how to shove more rayon in to the coil. :p

How is it easier to have double insertion from one end? Lol.

Available at your local . . . Well, just about everywhere. Needle threader . . . Double insertion at its easiest.

Ok well when taking pictures showing how i trim and pack my coils with rayon wick double insertion, i broke the build i was working on a octo - coil, quad parallel dual coil with 32g i snapped a little to close to coil in picture 2
lgSjWk.jpg
^^^double insertion rayon wick. I cut my rayon wick with a angle to roll into a long thinner thread at first. Makes it easier to insert wicks. And makes timing easier.
4TkhJg.jpg
^^^ i then cut off the end of my rayon wick i didn't twist as close to coil as possible to thin my tails.

What's not pictured is one more step easily unroll your rayon wick.
And fan out the tail full 180° if possible. For 3-4 post atty 90° is what you want. After fanning trim as close to deck as possible. Then dry fit the rayon wick onto the deck. Let the rayon wick saturate fully for a few minutes before firing.

For that build which would have been .2ohms i would thin and trim both rayon wick tails on each coil. For builds in the .5-1.3 ohms single tail works fine too keep em good and saturated even at 6v

Anyways its that easy! supposed to be a small tutorial on using rayon wick with the double insertion method.
This setup has been the easiest way to keep the right density, and right amount of tail to work with all my 3 post attys.

While it was fresh in my mind, I re-wicked 2 other RTA's this evening: an Orchid V4 and another KFL clone.

The KFL was ready for a rinse and re-wick anyway. The Orchid was a fresh wick, but I used too little cotton (KGD); while it performed extremely well... I took it with me today while visiting a relative for Xmas Eve. I had placed it inside my coat, and then in one of the pockets of my cargo pants after we had arrived. My brother and I began discussing vaping, since he was interested in it and I pulled out my mod and I noticed the Orchid was nearly empty. It had leaked out into my pocket. :facepalm:

Not a good start to the day. That was why I was excited about receiving my rayon today.

Anyway, I actually managed to wick them quickly, evening with all of the trimming and fiddling. Once again, flavor was fantastic with no nutty rayon taste or popping of the coils. Seems to be a cleaner flavor than even the KGD. I'll be taking one of the newly installed rayon tank with me Christmas day to test performance as well as my own virgin skills.

I found working with rayon easier than even the KGD, although there is a bit more fluffy waste while the KGD is more solid. But it was so much easier to get an even amount when removing strands and molding. But like I said, it's only a matter of time to see if I got it right. Looking forward to the results.
