also wash hands b4 using/touching rayon, oils from skin will also transfer to rayon.
they do sell smaller boxes of rayon at sallys for about $5, usually out of stock but not really cost effective buying smaller box but good if u only want to try it out but will still last u a very long time

Just got it at my local Sally's.... And now on with the learning experience !! I apparently have a long way to go on how to wick this thing. In the meantime I got some of their un-organic cotton as a back up. I am done with Japanese organic - first off because it is unwashed, unseeded and carries a lot of lint and perhaps dust. The color is too beige - an indication that it may not be too clean. I see nothing wrong with bleached cotton as long as it is not bleached with Clorox... :) They actually use hydrogen peroxide - a completely harmless agent that completely degenerates into water and oxygen. Hopefully though ryon will work better for me.

Thanks Nick, I will watch Rip Tripper's video.

I wonder if the off taste was from the water? Did you boil it in distilled or tap water? I have found that tap water in my area is really bad in my coffee maker and makes all the grounds taste alike when brewed. Once I switched to bottled water my coffee tastes much much better without the water additives ruining the coffee flavor.

IRT the Sally's I just pull it from the box, peel off about twice the coil diamater, give the end a twist, and shove it in the coil. For tanks I half the wicks at about mid level horizontally. Then trim the tails so that they are level with the deck.

Sauce, finish assembly, and vape on!

Moral of the story is to not treat, boil, and etc the wicks unless it had a hair dye taste and if that is the case I'd get another box from a different store.

No reason, I believe @Exchainer did boil his rayon at one point in time since it came in a pill bottle.

I believe I read that from a few pages back.

It was mentioned that it was soaked for 2 days, but didn't specifically say the liquid used or temperature maintained.

Just soaked it in cold water for a couple of days. I will not be soaking Sally's though - just straight up !!

I am willing to bet that the water you soaked it in left some of its remnants after you dried it out, and that is where the off taste came from.

Perhaps, but I used distilled water. Made sure it was completely dry before use.

SUCCESS !! I made the perfect wick with Sally's on my very first try - thanks to all the guidance from you guys. This stuff is amazing, Wow !! Great flavor, no off taste and a better hit. Off to the trash can goes the stuff from the pill box. I will keep the cotton, but only for use with anti-septics ... Thanks again everyone, much appreciated.

Glad it's working for you Exchaner! I found rayon to be much easier to work with than cotton. Less finicky... as long as it's tight and ya trim the tails, it's hard to screw it up...
I use a diagonal coil on a kayfun. Makes it a bit more difficult to stuff the tails down at just the right angle. The shoulders are also a bit more tricky - how to make them fluffy around the coil's edge to eliminate potential gaps. Next time I will install the coil at right angles. Probably easier that way.

Yeah, I always position my coils horizontally. It's just easier for me to get everything to line up that way...

You mean you place your coil NOT this way / but this way I correct? They are both parallel to the base.
