There are times when I get wonderful flavor from my RBA, and times when I just get loads of vapor with no discernible flavor. I'm not sure why. I've wound coils with 28 ga kanthal and with ribbon wire, but it seems hit and miss on flavor, with no clear reason for the hits. I'm told by the local B&M that it's a matter of how hot my coils are and so sub-ohm is the way to go, and ribbon wire is best for coil heat.

I've also been told not to use 500# SS mesh with 60/40 VG/PG, as it will not wick well enough, and I should use 400# for that instead, however my 500# mesh wick right now is wicking so well that it's drawing a lot more juice up than it vaporizes and there's juice all over inside the RBA, and I can hear it gurgling in there as it boils on the coil and wick while I vape, so I doubt the advice on 500# mesh. It seems to be wicking more than adequately.

Back to the coil. This is the coil I'm using right now:

It's 28 ga kanthal, no hot spots, and is running at .8 ohms and I'm getting no flavor, just a large volume of vapor. The battery if a fully charged AW IMR 18650 2000 mAh and it's in a mech.

Soooo.... what? Try the ribbon wire and a 4/3 wrap again? I'm getting pretty darn good at wrapping coils on this thing (if I do say so myself) but somehow the means of getting the flavor of the juice to come though eludes me most of the time and I've no idea why. There are times when I get really wonderful flavor from this juice, but I'm not sure how I did that.

So, ribbon wire or kanthal? What ohms should I be shooting for? I've gone from .74 to .98 and above, but somehow that flavor spot eludes me. Is ribbon wire really that much better as I am told?

Suggestions welcome.
