Its not so much the deck as it is the pins. To add, when you get to building .2 and below coils you want good quality insulators for peace of mind. Outside of that the adjustable airflow is nice. With higher ohm coils I like a tighter draw, and with my current setup at .5 I like it super airy. Lastly is fit and finish. I can only speak for myself here, but if I spend a lot of time wrapping, torching, testing, starting over, crying, etc I want everything to look good too.

Is there really differences between different "model" RDA's? I mean besides maybe different contacts in the post and screws(brass, copper, silver etc) what is the difference? To me the build of the coil and wick has WAY more impact on vapor production/flavour than the deck which they are mounted on.

Chamber size plays a large role in flavor concentration as well. Same wick and coil in an Atomic RDA put into a Patriot RDA will taste completely different.

Types of RBA

RDA (rebuildable drip atomizer) has no tank, just a drip well. Only a few drops of juice can be used at any given time. Multiple deck setups are available (single, dual, quad). RDA's with deeper drip wells (decks) allow more wick material to be used to hold more e-liquid.

Genesis-style RTA (rebuildable tank atomizer) has a tank below the deck. Traditionally uses a stainless steel mesh wick with either a single or dual coil deck. Most will leak if not kept in an upright position, and require using the "genny tilt" to properly wick the coil.

Kayfun-style RTA (rebuildable tank atomizer) has the tank above the deck. Can use cotton or silica wick with a single coil deck. Works much like a cartotank, utilizing a negative pressure system to wick. Not position dependent like the genny style, and more friendly for out-and-about use.

Perfected like clearomizers? Ummm, OK.:laugh::lol:

I'm lucky I didn't spew my drink on my keyboard. Thanks for the laugh.

Compared to the old 510 cart +atty 2 piece system, clearos were a game changer for me, but it was the shortcomings of all clearos that had me moving into rebuildables. Even a cheap carto tank beats the best clearo

I actually love my carto tanks.

Hey, I love them, too. Everyone on ECF calls me the Cartotank King.

Nothing comes close to my KFL+ though. I am a believer.

Elprup7, if dry & burnt hits, gurgling & flooding, and muted flavors are your thing, enjoy your clearomizer. What ever works for you and keeps you off the smokes.

what do you mean by insulators? I agree that the pins' conductivity is whats important. The deck/base is almost always SS.

There is always an insulator around the center pin where it passes through the deck of the atomizer. It isolates the center (positive) pin from the (negative) deck. If not for the insulator you would have a direct short between the center pin and the deck which would short your battery.

I should not have read this thread. I want another toy. Now I know what those tanks were that a guy was using the local vap shop. He had one of the RBA with the atomizer above the tanks but he wasn't using steel mesh. He had some kind of cotton or silica wick in his and he loved it. He did have to tip it from time to time.
