Hey guys,

I recently got some new wire - normally use kanthal but it was out of stock. The problem is that whenever I set up my coil (set up correctly, even red glow and is between 1.7 - 2.0 ohm) When I turn my ProVari to 4 volts and fire it I hear a pop which is basically the wire snapping.

This is really starting to annoy me as It has happened on 5 different occasions over the past 3 days, This isnt my first time using a rda and I am wondering if anybody knows why this is happening?

Im thinking that maybe it is some really cheap, low quality wire.

Ive also tried that - as soon as I press the fire button at anything above 4 volts it pops the wire.
I really think it is the wire as only 2 wraps is giving a 2 ish ohm coil.

A thinner wire with more wraps might help. Under three wraps I tend to have less success. I rebuild vivi nova's and making less than three wraps is how I burn the rubber grommet on the head.

If you're not using Kanthal can we assume it's Nichrome? Part of me says no because I don't see two wraps of Nichrome giving you a two ohm coil.

But if it is...I have never been able to make a Nichrome SS mesh wick work. My Provari pops the coil almost every time even at 3 volts.

The key may be to eliminate that first hotspot at the top of the coil. Make sure there isn't any tension on the coil between the wick and the terminal and make sure the coil makes contact with the wick but isn't tight...just touching.

I know...easier said than done.

Dang...now I want to try it again...but I don't want to waste any more wire on a fruitless endeavor.
